After her initial enthusiastic reaction, Stacy frowned slightly,
considering the matter. "Wait a minute," she said, "the other alien -- the
one I met in that saucer down there -- told me they'd have to play back the
recordings of my memories into my brain or something. And the recordings
are in that ship down there, aren't they? How are we going to get to
them?" The alien made an expression that Stacy took to be a smile. "There is no need for us to go down to the ship physically," he said. "We can access the ship's computer from here, and download the recordings easily enough. I do not think such matters are entirely beyond your own technology, are they?" "Oh," said Stacy, feeling slightly embarrassed. "Of course." After all, these were highly advanced aliens. Surely they'd have highly advanced computer networks! But something else had also occured to her. "Um, but he also said there might be... side effects? That I might not regain my memories, or that I might remember things that didn't happen, even." "Yes," the alien replied gravely, "that is a danger. But it is probably less than the one you spoke to thought. We have highly skilled medical technicians here, and they have been studying your anatomy and brain patterns while you were suspended in cryosleep." That thought creeped Stacy out a little, but she tried not to show it. The alien continued "There is some risk, of course. It is possible the procedure might not work at all. But the odds of that are low." "Sounds good to me!" said Stacy. "Let's do it!"
