Fred opened his eyes. He was glad that the icicles that had begun to seal
them shut were no longer there. It was difficult to focus but as the
blurriness changed to clarity, he saw a woman hovering above him. Her
long blonde hair fell to well below her waist. Fred knew that something
must be wrong with his vision though, for her flesh seemed to hold a blue
hue.
"Hi, Fred!" she said. Fred was confused, who was this blue woman? How did she know his name? "Hi, uh, do I know you? How do you know my name?" The woman smiled, her bright pearly whites positively gleamed. "Silly, you told me your name yourself, right before you lost consciousness!" "Oh," said Fred. Then she turned to the druid. "He doesn't look too good, his skin still hasn't returned to normal." The druid chuckled. "My dear, dear, dear princess. He's an upworlder; a heatbreather; a suncatcher; a high--" "I got that, but... so what?" said the princess. "They're all pink upstairs." "Oh," said the princess. "Well, actually," began Fred. "Some of us are pink, others are brown, a few are even black... so I hear tell." The two Ice people looked at Fred with blank stares. "So, um, can I keep him?" said the princess to the mage trying to ignore Fred's obviously insane observations. "Keep me!?!" said Fred. "I'm not some stray dog that you can bring home and put on a leash!" "You're right," said the druid. "You're more like a stray monkey... without as much hair."
