Almost effortlessly, Princess Inga lifted Fred and put him over her
shoulder. Then
she made haste towards the dwelling of Eiszapfen, wisest of her people.
She hoped
that the man she was carrying would not perish before she got there. Her
haste made her perspire a little,
for it was a fairly warm day by her standards - almost ten degrees
Fahrenheit
(say minus thirteen Celsius).
Soon she had arrived at the Frost Druid's. "Eiszapfen, look what I've found!" she called to him excitedly. The grey-bearded man in his druid's robes quickly assessed the situation, and said: "Quick, bring him in. We must cover him with furs to warm him." For the insides of the homes of the Ice People are kept little warmer than it is outside, since if the temperature rises above freezing point their inhabitants become increasingly uncomfortable. "And we must rub his extremities to get the circulation going and avoid the risk of frostbite," Eiszapfen went on. "What, all of them?" Inga asked. "Well, at least his fingers, toes, nose and ears," Eiszapfen clarified.
