"I saw you come out here rather quickly with that gift," the man says, looking disapprovingly down at her. "Is it not for Marcelina?"

Marcelina must be his daughter. Fred nodded quickly and held it out, afraid to make eye contact. "Sorry," she mumbled.

The man took the gift and stood still for a moment. Fred's fear grew with every second that passed. Belboz had said this man was a wizard. Was he angry?

The man said at length, "You're Belboz's little girl, aren't you? What's your name?"

"Hannah," Fred squeaked, ashamed by how nervous she was.

The wizard nodded thoughtfully, and said,

  1. "Do you have magic of your own? I sense magic within you. Or... perhaps around you?"
  2. "I had no idea Belboz had any children. Are you adopted?"
  3. "Marcelina says she recognizes you but she can't place from where. How do you know her?"
  4. "Why don't you come give Marcelina her gift. She would like to talk to you."
  5. "Come, walk with me. I would like to show you something in the garden."
  6. "I know you're lying, child. I can sense it. Why would you lie about your name?"
  7. "I know you're lying, child. And I further know Belboz has his eye on my Malbonctish cauldron."
  8. "I know you're lying, Sir Fred."
