"I don't quite understand what it is you want me to do," the knight-turned-princess protested as Belboz hurried her out the door to intercept the faerie folk. "When you were a knight," Belboz explained patiently, "you had a friend who was charged with a quest to go slay the dragon. So—" She pulled a face. "Belboz, I'm not sure I want anything to do with—" "With saving the kingdom? My dear, please. Its fate rests in your hands. My crystal ball told me that the faeries would have an item that would help him greatly. I wish I knew what the item was. You shall have to play it by ear. Can I count on you?" She sighed. Her personality may have changed greatly, but she still felt loyalty to the crown. "If it is for the good of Allaria." "Excellent," he said, pleased. "Remember, you are Princess Elise of Oseithit, a small and faraway kingdom. You were kidnapped by a lower sorcerer and having escaped, you are trekking across the land anonymously to return home. Got it?" She nodded, and he sent her on her way. She sat outside daintily, wearing a humble dress and a long purple cloak, and holding a sack that contained supplies for a long journey. Belboz was certainly serious about her looking the part. She looked up, suddenly hearing a noise like hundreds of windchimes, and saw something that should not have surprised her but did nonetheless. Approaching her rapidly was a flock of hundreds of faeries, shining like a rainbow. She sprang to her feet, suddenly nervous, and all at once they were upon her, surrounding her. Each stood about three inches high and was clothed in beautiful outfits crafted from natural items such as leaves and flower petals. The faerie that floated directly in front of her, apart from the crowd, was dressed much more grandly, in a long dress that seemed to incorporate actual fabric, and she wore a crown of what appeared to be tiny gems atop her head. "I am Queen Amaralis of the Faerie Folk," she said serenely. "Who might you be, my child?" "I am Princess Elise of Oseithit," she said, voice more or less steady. Amaralis regarded her for a moment, and said,
