Elise

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 112294

"What's the bad news?" Fred asked, dread rising within her.

"Well... the longer you are in this form, the more you will start to feel at home in it. You will start to enjoy a different set of activities and like a different set of things... You will likely want to choose a female name for yourself... In extreme cases subjects have even begun to form false memories of themselves in their new forms as if they had been in them longer than they really had. By the time two weeks are up, you may not want to be a knight again. That is why you must continue to train. To preserve your old self."

Fred felt sick, and had to sit down, her hand pressed daintily against her forehead. "How badly do I really need this item?" she asked at length.

"This is not a meeting you want to miss," Belboz assured her. "And do not worry, if you ask it of me now, I will change you back into your old self after the faerie folk leave no matter what you want at the time."

"I ask it of you now," Fred said promptly.

"Then I shall comply. There, feel better?"

"...Slightly, I suppose. But that'll go much further once we start training."

Fred was immediately horrified to find that lifting a sword was exceptionally difficult in this form, and practicing strokes no longer gave her the rush it always had. They trained all day, but when Fred went to bed, she didn't feel accomplished; she just felt tired.

The next day was much the same, and by the end of the fourth day Fred was bothered enough by the plainness of her dress to ask Belboz to conjure her a nicer, pinker one. He did, but he was concerned doing it.

Fred stopped asking for extra training sessions, and began to arrive late to the ones that were planned. She no longer put any heart into her movements and instead wished to spend more time cooking and cleaning, because the tunnels were all dusty and Belboz's studies and potions room were giant messes, and he hadn't the faintest idea how to cook. Not that Fred did either. Or at least that had once been true. She spent up to an hour each morning doing her hair and asked Belboz about embroidery materials, and the sorcerer grew very worried though not at all surprised. On day ten, Fred asked Belboz to start calling her Elise.

Nearly two weeks had passed when

  1. the faerie folk finally arrived.
  2. "Elise" snuck out when Belboz wasn't home. She had no interest in whatever item the faeries had to give Fred for his quest, and indeed no interest in the quest. And certainly none in being changed into a man.
