Zaretha's first priority had been to restore Fred's mind. Not only did mental transformations become harder to reverse the longer one waited, but also if Fred believed that she had been kidnapped and was desperate to return to her supposedly beloved Belboz then returning her to the castle would be much more difficult.
Zaretha hoped that she had been successful, so she was disappointed that, when Fred's eyes fluttered open, she said: "Who are you? Come to that, who am I? And where am I?
