Who and what (part 1)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 111939

“I have one or two ideas on how to handle this . . . .problem but let us not rush into it,” Rei finishes.

To that end let us at least first start with basics: why we are here and perhaps what we were doing before coming here.

Thankfully enough the natives here from “modern” times (aka the 20th/21rst Century) seem to have a working knowledge of what us Champions are about and our Quest business. It makes using the Tarrot “rig” as I call the magical cards I am using for something akin to a magical presentation show SO much easier….

Not like I can forcast the future worth a hoot with it...

Though as an aside I should say I DO wish that we could just do this by psionic means we Champions usually are in a wont of doing instead of this. However, considering how UNCOMFORTABLE it is for the refugees from the Fate series reality appears to be for them that is RIGHT bloody out!

….

I DO wish that I could be using something else, though. I look like some kind of weird fortune teller here and the sad thing is that I don’t DARE try to use the magical cards to perform a Tarrot reading. Bloody things and my odd nature just don’t . . .work out well and leave at that.

Anyway, we go and explain that our prior Quest was to basically “neutralize” a floating city (actually the co-joined cities of Rapture and Columbia) so it wouldn’t eventually fall down on the land of Ainran and killing countless of it’s people below (as well as destroying large portions of the places farmland . . .leading to possible death by famine). . . .

Honestly, I believe that probably UNIT could have stepped up to help avert the “famine” part of things but still aside we Champions did want to stop the “death from above” thing. While the White Queen of that fun house version of Narnia had plans and processes already in the works in the background to mitigate or even eliminate such and outcome, that is NOT something I and my comrades were going to risk then. That and we jolly well have NOT HAD ENOUGH time and MOTIVATION since then to find out about such things!!

. . . .

Sigh, that all said and maybe having a bunch of zombie-like creatures from that cursed city making a bad situation worse (though that would take a miraculous run of BAD luck for those things to survive the impact) would be nice to avoid as well!

Never did like the “Dawn of the Dead” and all that rot except for “Shawn of the Dead”.

Good comedy but hardly relevant to the here and now.

”The added fact that one of the non-zombie citizens we got to rescue before the floating got vanished into nothingness HAPPENS to be John’s little sister was a fortunate thing indeed,” I finish with the precursor Quest. “Truth told after having to deal with what amounted to a VERY annoying racist Disney Land in the sky having the satisfaction of getting HER and all the other basically innocent folks out of there—the victory condition for the Quest I should add—was a welcome balm indeed.”

”True that,” the Brigadier added from the side. “Even with all the decidedly odd turns of events before and during that Quest business I must say I AM glad that the little elfin girl there is now safe and sound, albeit in a form befitting a character from a fairy tale: a ‘drow’ girl princess.”

Yeah, that thing. John told me that his sister had been rather fond of playing good aligned drow elf characters. Female ones from high ranking Dark Elf undercities and all that. With the rest of the family’s Matrixes having taken the hit they’ve taken (only shored up by basically Aslan’s mystical powers) I suppose SOME kind of transformation was expected to happen.

. . . .

Not sure how that translated over to the OTHER ‘Little Sisters” of Rapture getting transformed into various fantasy races . . .but it did. All princesses versions that I should expect, what with what appears to be the expectations put into their little heads by their parents before things went to Hell in a handbasket in Rapture (1950’s aesthetic and all that). Them being in a waking dream by what had been done to them there and . . .dreams becoming reality . . .

Long short, John’s sister’s life won’t be snuffed out by existential failure and that’s a win in my book. Would have hated to have to inform Sarah Conner that we’d failed to save her daughter’s life there.

Bloody. That her daughter was in danger was the only reason why she’d even THOUGHT to allow John to come along on this Validation Quest. And only after she’d taken me aside there and made me SWEAR to keep John safe and sound…

Which . . .I did more than he knows a few times there on the Quest even IF he did it with flying colors.

Always watch your partner’s back.

That was also why I had us break out all the Power Armour in the end as well, since we still had access to the Disaster Locker/Contingency Locker/ whatever the family finally got around to calling those things.

Lord above, we do have to have the MOST overly dramatic monikers for our things at times!

Anyway, one spare set of Power Armour I originally had tinkered with (magically and otherwise) for my husband here and he was going to be as safe as bloody damn possible as I could manage while being on tour in the Nasu-verse there.

Totally safe would have been to tell that drone Celestrial to take a flying leap and have some OTHER Champions do Medea’s Validation Quest and have our gang sent HOME, but I don’t think that I could have stomached the thought of leaving the princess like that. She needed US then and still does in a way even with everything. The experience with having almost killed her own brother while under that false love for Jason is still haunting her, even IF she hides it well.

Her . . .and her newest sisters there . . .

Then there was that little thing that I was rather surprised (but not too much) about what John said about her mother.

Sarah Conner just happened to be a FAN of Princess Medea! I guess that makes a ceBurtain amount of sense being that the woman has something of a strong feminist streak to her, as I rather noticed at times during Terminator 2 and how some feminists out there consider her something of a hero in her tale (albeit a tragic one) given everything going on in that tragedy.

Myself, I rather saw the literature version of the princess as more of a villain. I might have had genetic material donated from an Angel whose namesake happens to be of a Feminist group in Israel but NO I do not see the literary version of Princess Medea as a hero (tragic or otherwise). Heroes do NOT kill their own children in revenge against those who have wronged them!!

. . .

BUT . . . on one hand but on the other that damnable Jason was hardly a hero but that was just me. Still they might have a point considering the mind control going on here: her being a tragic heroine.

It was almost comedic how starry eyed Sarah was after getting an actual autograph from the befuddled Princess there, whatever the case. I guess I better explain just WHY Sarah is such a big fan later on when we have more time! ”And then we got done with that Quest only to be intercepted by a Drone Rule . . .”

  1. ”And then we got done with that Quest only to be intercepted by a Drone Rule . . .”
