Chakotay checked his tricorder, not only did the natural interference of
various minerals and metals not allow for a good lock on Wildman (or
anyone else for that matter) they didn't allow for any use of the
transporter. "As long as we're inside the caves we've got to hoof it," he
said. "Hoof?" inquired Seven. "Leg work, old fashioned, human leg
work." "I'm a Bajoran, Sir," said Mulcahey. Commander Chakotay gave the
crewman what appeared to be the evil eye as he said, "It's an expression,
Ensign, don't make an issue of it."
"The water-dwelling humanoids are nowhere in sight," added Seven. The commander looked about, "What did that man call them...the undermen of the lake?" "I think he said the merians from down under the lake," said Bieber. "No, it was the underwater lakemen," said Carey (who felt irked at being forgotten in the last episode). "The designation 'water- dwelling humanoids' is the most logical," said Seven. "But if we're looking for what their societal name really is," asnwered Mulcahey. "They are the mermen of the underlake." This time both Chakotay and Seven gave him the evil eye. Ensign Bieber sighed, "Great, just great! Fishmen and floods and we still can't go home! All I want is to get back to my robot!" "That Project is over, Ensign," said Seven. "And don't forget Wildman," added Chakotay.
