The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1111

Wounds mend at an obscene rate and soon, the three: Loam, Fred, and Alicia, are called forward to see the one named "Carradene".

"What in hades happened?!"

Before Loam could open his mouth, Fred spoke out - partly to explain what he understood to be the truth and partly out of anger at being spoken to in such a manner. "Alicia and I were walking out in the woods when of a sudden we came upon a bear...a corpse...a were-bear killed in no natural way. Before we knew it, we were in battle with a silvered werewolf, far greater in size than any here and with savage eyes (and a problem with his salivary glands if I may so add).

Carradene was disturbed at the appearance of Silver.

"Bears are not an easy kill," said Carradene solemnly. "Silver loved challenges. You must show me the bear, and the wolf." This was an order, not a request, and Fred began to feel his fur rise as well as his blood pressure. "And why didn't you bring in this...this club?!!"

Fred did not like being talked to so, it was not what he was used to. He had killed the other wolf, defended tow others, and this...this....stranger dared order him about as if he were nothing more than a squire?! But Fred knew enough to keep his tongue still; he was too new to the land, too new to this people. He still had had no formal introduction to Carradene but could see that he held some authority here.

Loam spoke up while putting a hand on Fred's shoulder. "He's new and I...I was in no condition to do anything." There was anger in Loam's voice; not anger at Carradene, not at Fred, but at himself. Loam had gotten caught, he became 'prey.' The thought burned him more than any shame could've done before he was changed.

"We will go back tomorrow," continued Loam. "But we should bring a few other...the Forsaken will be about, the death of Silver is no slight thing, and there is the...meat.....to consider."

A woman in the crowd gasped at the thought, but they all knew the Forsaken's penchant for eating their own.

"And for now," spoke Carradene. "Every and all to your homes. The night is advanced and the moon shines her light to us all. Loam, can you see to our 'friend'?"

"I will see to Fred, yes." he said. Then they all walked out.

  1. It is said that "devils dance in the light of a silvery moon"
