The Witch Doctor's Advice

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 111071

"I am sorry that I cannot offer you more help," the witch doctor said. "As you can see from the map, it is not that far to Jeppeline's dwelling - it should take you well under a day to reach it. But the country becomes increasingly rugged as you climb into the foothills of the mountains. Do not stray from the path, as it would be easy to become lost. And make sure that you start out early enough in the morning to ensure that you will reach your destination before nightfall. By day the way should be relatively safe, but the wolves come out at dusk."

"It would be an arduous journey for Hannah in her condition," Henry said. "Perhaps instead of Hannah and myself going to see the sorceress, I should go alone and ask her to come to our home to see Hannah."

"I doubt that she would be willing to come to the village. She is something of a recluse. But your wife seems remarkably healthy, and I do not think that the journey should tax her unduly."

Henry thanked the witch doctor, and he and "Hannah" returned home. The next morning the two of them set out on their journey, suitably clothed and carrying adequate supplies, and having made arrangements for the care of their children for the time that they were away (which should only be a couple of days). Fred felt more hopeful than she had for a very long time that she might be nearing an end of her strange predicament. Though Belboz had made it impossible for her to leave her home on her own, [111012] that she had been able to visit the witch doctor together with Henry made her think that she should be able to travel to the sorceress's home so long as he was with her.

  1. Their journey goes smoothly.
  2. They run into trouble.
