A Brief Chase

He ran after her, uncomfortably aware of his feelings for her - which right now were a confusing mixture of relief, exasperation, anger, and affection tinged by lust. He had to catch her. Not only was it his job to bring her back so that she could perform the ritual, but in her current cursed state she was a danger both to herself and to others. Not only had she been amazingly lucky to avoid serious injury when she threw herself off the cliff, but she had wounded a man and - far worse in Fred's eyes - broken Skye's wings. As she was now, she was not just hyper, capricious and irresponsible, but also clearly had a nasty cruel streak.

Even though he expected to be the faster runner, being male as well as fitter, Fred was surprised by quite how quickly he overhauled her. Being a fairly simple soul, it didn't occur to him that she might have wanted to be caught. When he came within arms-length, he grabbed her round the waist. She fell, bringing him down on top of her. He was acutely aware of her warm body under his. Then she squirmed round under him and kissed him full on the lips.
