Fred's heart skipped a beat. It was too good to be true... she had to be hearing things. But sure enough, as she drew nearer the shouts became all the more distinct, and she learned what they had found out: that he had been somehow touched by some sea magic but was still alive, and was within a two-mile radius. King Embron and Queen Jastina's court wizard was on board, ready to do what he could, though sea magic was notoriously difficult to untangle.

Fred was reasonably sure that Narissa would be aware if she didn't at least do some singing...

  1. but she couldn't pass up this chance. "Over here!" she called. "It's me, Fred!"
  2. but perhaps the witch wouldn't be able to tell how successful the wreck had been. She started to sing, and the men were clearly enchanted, but she didn't intend to harm any of them.
  3. and she was frankly terrified at the idea of displeasing her. Heavy as it was, she sang her heart out, thinking maybe she'd be able to save some of them in the aftermath.
