"Not just yet. I have something that I need to check on first." Then he pulled a pocket watch out of his waistcoast and looked at it. "Besides, my invitation to our guest stipulated 7:30, and it is still several hours till then. The restaurant may well not even have started serving dinner yet." "How can your watch tell you what time of day it is, when we've just travelled through time?" "There is a clock on the wall of my room, and I used it to set my watch. I hope that the clock is accurate. It would be most impolite to keep our dinner guest waiting, so if I do not get an opportunity to check the time beforehand I suggest that we arrive at the restaurant at no later than 7:15. I imagine that in your own time you are used to highly accurate clocks, but in 1914 they are rather more variable, especially when they are in places where they may not be adjusted too often...
