"Oh I don't know. Mistress Candida must be about forty, and there are still a few customers who insist on having her rather than anyone else."

"That's true," Freda said, cheered by her false memories of life in Mistress Candida's brothel.

So they attempted to escape through the window.

1. And managed to do so.
2. But the window proved to be slightly too small. They would have to find another escape route.
3. But they made enough noise to alert the witch to their escape attempt. (Unfortunately her hearing was now considerably better than it had been before her youthening.)
