The knight's name was Sir Ricardo O'Farrell. He was about thirty, and spoke with an Irish lilt. He had unfortunately become rather lost in the same caves that had been such a problem for the previous two knights who had entered them. When he came across a large door after wandering for several days, Sir Rick knocked eagerly.
A little girl, no more than seven and wearing rags, answered. Her eyes widened on seeing Sir Rick, but she seemed to be unable to say what she wanted. "Can I help you?" she finally asked through pursed lips, a strange desperation still in her eyes. He was a bit confused at her mannerisms, but said gently, "I'm rather lost, little lady. I wondered if I could speak to your parents?" She looked about to answer when an older, masculine voice sounded in the darkness behind her, "Girl, you know it's Winthrop's job to answer the door." A moment later, an old man in a long robe appeared next to her. "Run along, Edith. You still haven't finished your chores." The girl looked ready to burst. Sir Rick still couldn't understand why. After a few seconds, the old man made a seemingly meaningless gesture with his hand, and the girl stiffened, bowed slightly, and marched away. "Now," said the old man, turning to Sir Rick. "Hello there. My name is Belboz." "Sir Ricardo," the knight said, still puzzled. "What business does a young knight such as yourself have in my caves?" "I apologize, sir, I did not mean to trespass. I seem to have become rather lost. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of the northern exit of the caves?" "The northern exit? But that would land you right in..." "The dragon's territory. Yes, my quest is to slay it. In fact I am the third knight Allaria has sent to complete this task. Perhaps you saw one or both of the first two, spaced a few months apart not too long ago?" Belboz was silent for a few moments.
