So she was going to try to lie to him, Belboz thought. Interesting. He decided to play along, and only smiled back, got into bed next to her, and said, "Goodnight, my sweet." Of course, when he pecked her on the cheek he was also making her blemishes--which he had yet to see, and hoped to never see, because that meant the spell was working--even more unsightly. But she need not know that. When Hannah woke up, Belboz was snoring lightly, and she rushed to the mirror to check on her spots. They had risen even more--her upper arms were swollen to about twice the width they ought to be--and had begun sprouting coarse black hair. And of course, the spots continued to spread--they were making substantial progress below her knees, and some were rising on her midsection. She even found one on her ear, and spent half an hour trying to cover it with makeup before just deciding to wear her hair down for the day. The entire time she was in tears at their hideousness. What would Belboz think of her now?
