Parallel Storylines: Astra

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 108160

While Fred is awkwardly befriending Velus and working out the details of basic communication, Astra is busy regaining consciousness for the... second? Third? ... time in the last... fuzzy, meaningless time blob that probably corresponds close-ish to a day or three.

The Aqualarian warrior princess focuses on the sound of dripping water, the lack of other sounds hopefully indicating that she's not in any immediate danger, which feels incongruous with her coming-to. She turns her focus inward to try and recall the events that landed her in this mess, wherever 'here' is and whatever the mess happens to be this time.

There was the dragon-knight... and they found the real dragon again... The painful deafness and ringing in her ears... the dragon cast a spell... falling... That must have been a teleportation spell, Astra deduces, and furthermore one that didn't teleport in such a way to keep both feet on solid ground. She gives a reflexive scowl at the realization, but then considers that a careless teleport could have just as easily landed her inside solid rock. The more gruesome mental image gives her the motivation to start pulling her wits back together and to start exploring her new situation so she can start making the most of it...

Astra opens her eyes and is pleasantly surprised to find that there's barely enough light where she is to be able to see. She also discovers that she's lying close to something dark, wet and sticky. With a little bit of probing she quickly determines that it's a puddle of blood, probably her own. Concussion, then - or her ear ruptured with Fred's shouting. There's a thin trickle moving away from her, and her sense of direction gradually wakes up to chime in that, by the way, she's lying on a slope - reasonably steep, even - with her heels higher up than her head. That wall up ahead is probably the floor.

Astra is able to piece together all this information to get a better picture of what must have transpired between the teleportation and now, and the slow ache coming from the rest of her body, especially the most-of-it that's not covered, more or less confirms a roll down this underground hill.

Using one hand to brace herself and the other to apply direct pressure to try and stem the bleeding from her head, Astra rolls herself up into a sitting position so she can take better stock of her situation. Finding a way to tend to the worst of her injuries should be priority number one, and following that... well... the priorities haven't changed much from before: Velus, equipment, dragon.

Having gotten a better grasp on her current situation, Astra starts trying to determine just how much immediate danger she's currently in. That there's enough light to see by isn't usually a safe thing down here - what and where is the light coming from?

  1. A flickering glow coming from around a bend in the tunnel. Seems stationary.
  2. A flickering glow coming from around a bend in the tunnel. It's coming closer!
  3. Phosphorescent moss is growing on the side of the sloped tunnel Astra fell down
  4. Astra's eyes - the resident dragon had a twisted sense of humour and several spells prepared
