"What!" exclaimed Stacy. "After all I've invested in this, you can't just
cast me off
now. I want to find out what this is all about. Surely I've earnt that?
Besides, when
the bad guys find out that Nielson's dead, won't I - as his work colleague
and known
to have been investigating amnesia - be suspected
of being involved?"
Helen smiled slightly at Stacy's vehemence, and Stacy discovered that her suspicion that the girl would be pretty if she ever smiled was correct. "She's right, you know, Paul," she said. "We can't just freeze her out." "I suppose so," Paul said. Then Helen turned to Stacy. "As I said, it will take some time to go through it all. It's getting late, and you must have had a tiring day. Go and get some rest - some of the other offices are equipped with couches and camp beds, and there's a bathroom. In the morning, we'll take you through what we've found." So Stacy found a camp bed in one of the offices, and eventually managed to doze off. She was brought back to consciousness by:
