A Potential Problem

The man replied, "I have no problem with your staying and getting some sleep. And if you had knocked on the door and my wife had answered, then I think that she would welcome you, too. We do not get many strangers. However, she might not take too kindly to finding a sprightly young lady in the bedroom, if you know what I mean."

Astra stammered. "Yes, I see how that would be awkward. Where is your wife?"

The man replied,

1. "She is visiting my son, and mostly likely will not be back tonight. But for the sake of discretion, it might be wiser for you to stay overnight in our barn."
2. "She had a few things to tidy up in the barn before retiring for the night, and she will be here at any minute."
