At first sight the Staircase Room was completely unchanged. The Time Traveller looked round the room. "Well, this is rather an anticlimax," he said. "I will understand if you are sceptical that we have really travelled in time."
"No, I believe you," Josh said. "I don't see how you could have faked the rapid cycling between night and day outside the window. And besides, my copy of The Time Machine is no longer on top of the bookcase where I put it down. Let's look further afield. It's quite possible that the Staircase Room's surroundings will have changed completely."
