Can It Really Be True?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 107560

"Excuse me, sir," the man said, "but I would be greatly obliged if you did not tamper with my machine."

"I'm sorry," Josh said, withdrawing his hand from the key (which was currently in the keyhole next to the "P" plate). He looked at the man's anachronistic clothing. "Are you pretending to be the Time Traveller?"

"Pretending? I am the Time Traveller. Or at least that was the name that Mr Wells used for me when he wrote a rather lurid account of my adventures. Though of course he only got to hear about the early ones. Once I learnt that what I had told him - which I had understood to be in confidence - was being turned into a book, I naturally wanted no more to do with him."

"So you claim that that contraption in front of us is a genuine time machine?"

"Indeed I do. Perhaps a short journey on it would convince you. Though I only evisaged my machine as carrying a single occupant, there is just enough room for two if you do not mind being a bit cramped. So to which time would you like to travel?"

Though still disbelieving that the machine could really travel in time, Josh named a date in:

  1. The near future.
  2. The far future.
  3. The recent past, to be precise February 9, 1999, the date currently set on the machine.
  4. The distant past.
  5. Actually he didn't name a date at all. There were more questions that he wanted to ask the man claiming to be the Traveller first.
