Stacy had been hoping that someone from the police would be exploiting the
information gained from Julie's transponder to enable them to track her
own device,
but so far there was no sign of any pursuit. Of course, from what Falk had
said [9456]
an electronics expert probably wouldn't have seen Julie's device yet, as
it was
still quite early. And until the police realised that the two women were
missing from
their hotel, which might not have happened yet, they wouldn't appreciate
that there was any urgency in uncovering the
transponder's secrets.
When they arrived at the airstrip, there was a business jet already waiting for them. Whatever one might think about Zimmerman, one couldn't fault his efficiency. Stacy imagined that an aircraft such as this wouldn't have the range to cross an ocean, so that limited their immediate destination to either Canada or Mexico. She imagined that the latter was the more likely. She wondered whether a refuelling stop would be needed before they crossed the border; it was quite a long trip from New Jersey.
