A Possible Means of Escape?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 106267

"Flinging random objects out of the window doesn't sound very exciting," the other Astra said. "Though I'd happily fling out the hideously patterned, tie-dyed sofas just so that I wouldn't have to look at them any longer. But as that would be based on my sense of aesthetics it wouldn't count as random."

"I'd be willing to stretch a point and allow it," Astra 1 said.

"Good. Let's start with this one. I'll take this end and you take the other end."

"Can I help?" Mitchell asked.

"Sorry, but you're a librarian, aren't you? That means that by a stereotype that we daren't defy you must be too weedy to lift heavy objects such as sofas. Right, ready Astra? One, two, three, heave."

The two Astras lifted the sofa, carried it over to the window and tossed it out.

Ten seconds later there was the satisfying sound of it hitting some hard suface. "Wow, we're a long way up," one of them said.

"Do you think that if we jumped out of the window ourselves we could land on the sofa, and that doing so would protect us from serious injury?" the other Astra asked. "That way we could escape."

"Possibly," the first Astra said. She went on:

  1. "You go first, and then call up to let us know how you got on."
  2. "I'll go first."
  3. "Mitchell can go first." "All right," he said.
  4. "Mitchell can go first." "I'd rather not," he said. "I'm rather attached to my insides, and would sooner not have them become my outsides when I hit the ground."
