The Never Ending Quest - Episode 106127

Medea

“In a word,” a female voice said from behind her, causing her to jump slightly in surprise. “What you just saw was many things, but one thing it was was a young woman doing what she thought was a good thing but instead was something rather rash.

”She basically went backwards in time using a method of time travel who’s side effect meant not only her erasure but the erasure of countless number of people from existence as well,” the voice continues as I turn to face a young, shorted haired woman dressed in an . . .odd uniform of sorts. Perhaps an Oriental version of the Amazons I am familiar with, what with the wearing of trousers and such?

Whatever the case, I sense that while that talking Lion had been rather too busy to stop and try to explain things to this rather confused princess, this woman here would step up to the task.

It would surely be appreciated at this point in time, despite a nagging sensation I should more easily sense what is being presented to me here by my eaves dropping (something I find objectionable if not for the Gods and Goddesses being the ones who set me to do it).

I then blink as what this young oriental woman with rather shocking RED eyes just said.

That and . . .she got the same sense of POWER and Might that only until recently would have had her bowing in whorship, and fear.

Having met an actual, living breathing entity that she recognized (as she understood it) a goddess from her religion . . .Well, that changed things.

Caution and respect was called for her, but not outright panicky groveling…. Still…

”You mean . . .why would anyone in with access to magicks like that be foolish enough to do that to themselves?” I wonder aloud in wonder. Such powers are hard to obtain even by magi of my caliber, but while there are fools aplenty even within the field of the magus they usually manage to kill themselves before reaching THAT level of magical might. <P”The young woman’s story is rather complicated for the short time I have here, but what she meant to do was by murdering that man who was a vile and evil version of her father she would wipe out the timeline which contained much misery and suffering caused in part by the man’s manipulations of her. By that death, she had thought that perhaps she’d be left to live out her existence in peace with her less villainous father while those who’s lives had been effected originally would be able to live out a better life as well.”

”Well intentioned or not, it was rather foolish!” I snapped, noticing that time seemed to have come to a stop while this odd discussion was taking place.

My studies as a magus suggested that her efforts should only have generated another timeline where she had killed a man, and now was trapped in a world where she would have to answer for her crimes and not much else to show for it. That is if she’d used a form of time travel magicks that wouldn’t risk a reality shattering paradox!

Granted, it was all only theory found in musty tomes in my Father’s libraries and not such to share with the masses (if only to avoid needless headaches and dangerous foolishness; knowledge is to be secured and hoarded for those who KNOW how to use it wisely, of course), but theory or not shouldn’t this young woman who’d gained such power at least taken time to consider the ramifications? Such power used so recklessly leads to a LOT of needless suffering and loss; hardly the noble goals the young fool had been attempted to gain at ALL!

….

Something about what I just said there is bothering me for some reason. It was true what I just said but there was something MORE than just that.

Something important that I know I should know but cannot for the life of me…

Ah Gods damn it, nevermind right now. It will come back to me soon enough I am sure!

Still, however back to the business at hand!

Surely…

”True enough and something that the Higher Ups would have intervened earlier if not for having been so involved with the War for the Dark Tower/The Root, fighting against the Anti-life before . . .” the woman with the red eyes (I learn that her name is Ibuki Maya, and was a former coworker from a place called NERV where Rei’s youngest sister used to work).

That is later, I must say again.

Truthfully, perhaps in the course of things I would have learned here name before my mind went blank in complete shock as she continues on a bit more before I interrupt with a question. I mean it had become somewhat obvious that I was to learn something here, before the Goddess should finally dine to tell me what my final fate should be from here on out…

Oh COME now! Surely while I can well tell that while Rei’s group had intervened and prevented the dire fate that was to have been forced upon me by those treacherous Avatars who’d grown vile and corrupt, drunk on power trusted to them while the True Gods and Goddess went off to do battle with Enemies far beyond my mortal comprehension. Rei’s group had been sent to save me from becoming a monster in the end, the Witch of Betrayal, but I know that my life was never again to be the same.

The Gods and Goddess have a plan for me, something with this seed within me that has been growing ever since Rei healed me of my cracked ribs. They want me to be MORE than merely a princess of Colchis, and priestess of Hecate, though such positions are HARDLY mundane.

I sensed I was to be a Champion of sorts for them or some group closely associated with them in some fashion or form. A group that I know that was hinted at from overheard conversations I had witnessed before now within Rei’s heroic group.

But never in my wildest nightmares would I have EVER dared think that it might have something to do with any kind of creatures out in Existence which would wish to dare DESTROY the Root of all things. I'm already still a bit out of sorts from nearly having killed my own beloved BROTHER while under a vile spell, so I guess some of it can be excused.

Still, a princess should hold themselves to a higher level, right?

  1. “WHAT?!!” I screech rather ill manneredly, startling Maya rather badly and making me feel rather embarrassed when I think back upon it. She had only been trying to help...
