Jastina wasn't too pleased, but she wasn't quite angry. The girls' bodies were no longer anything to look at, but they weren't disgusting, and they still had pretty faces, and... she just had to be sure.
She went to Belboz, and said, "I know you're trying not to arouse suspicion, but this is not going to do the job."
The necromancer considered this, and replied,
-
"A disease that would ravage their skin would be ideal, but it would be suspicious for all of them to get it unless it were a truly contagious illness. Maybe we could make it look like someone in your entourage got it while traveling."
-
"You know, changing some other aspect of theirs could make them less attractive as well. I could give them very shrill voices, or make them very vain or cruel or clumsy."
-
"I'm sorry, Jastina, but I really don't think it's advisable to change anything else. It would draw too much attention. We'll just have to hope this does the trick."
-
"Have you considered changing tactics, my Queen? They could make some terrible mistake that would cause them to be released from your service, or they could become lost while out walking in a storm, or accidentally ingest some potion..."
