There was a short period of great confusion. Fred saw one of the figures
grab
Exotica by the arm, as he himself tried to fend off another. Then he
received a
blow to the head and fell unconscious.
Fred came round to find Velus anxiously licking his face. There was no sign of the people who had attacked them. Nor was there any sign of Exotica. Then he looked at the mural again. It now included a depiction of Exotica. She was shown running at full pelt through the woods, a look of horror on her face. A few yards behind her, a lustful-looking man was chasing her. Unless Fred could somehow free her from the mural, she would spend all eternity fleeing from the man but never gaining on him, nor indeed moving at all. She could never be caught, of course, but it wouldn't seem like that from her perspective.
