Hannah sat there in the chair, blinking, unable to process what had just happened. Belboz surveyed his work, satisfied. Hannah was now about four feet tall, and extraordinarily ugly—with a very thick body, strong arms, a tail resembling that of a lion, enormous meaty hands, a coarse beard (despite her maintained femininity), a few scraggly hairs on her mostly bald head, a bulbous nose, grey pasty skin, three beady black eyes, and ears that about doubled the width of her head. The pretty dress she had been in changed accordingly to a small tunic-like piece. She was quite the sight, though by her facial expression she obviously had no idea of her utility to Belboz. He snapped his fingers, and what little intelligence she may have had dissolved into brutish and uncomplicated slavishness. She blinked her three eyes, and looked up at him in an interesting mix of expectation and repressed aggression. Perfect. "There we are." He smiled. "Now, Hannah—" I must think of a new name, that one won't do at all anymore "—if you hadn't guessed already, plans have changed. There shall be no wedding. But I still require your help.
