What a sweet old man, Hannah thought, smiling, as she waited for the woodcarver to return with the change of clothes he had promised. The dress he brought to her was a bit tight around the chest, but it would do. She changed into it while her host prepared some hot soup. She would have offered to make them both a meal herself, but she had no idea how to cook. As they ate, the elderly man introduced himself as Frederick. Hannah's one and only thought was, What a nice name. "But call me Stuart," he said. "It's my middle name." Hannah introduced herself as well, and Stuart said, "If you don't mind my asking, Hannah, what were you doing running around the village in a wedding dress?" "I was about to get married," she explained forwardly. "But I felt like something was wrong. So I ran." "Ah, matters of love," sighed Stuart, and if Hannah had had any brain capacity to read expressions, she would have seen him lose himself in memories for a moment.
