The next morning, Dr Smith picked up Stacy at the agreed time, and then
drove her to
Albuquerque airport. The flight was uneventful. After arriving in LA, they
booked into
rooms at a hotel quite near to where the murdered man had lived. Stacy
stayed at the hotel
while Dr Smith went to pay his respects to the man's widow - as a
stranger, she had felt
it would be inappropriate for her to go, and she did not intend to go to
the funeral
the next day either.
It was still only mid-afternoon when Dr Smith returned to the hotel, and Stacy asked - hoping she didn't sound too callous - whether they could visit the laboratory where the dead man had been working.
