"I beg your pardon?" Merek asks, raising his eyebrows. Fred looks agitated. "It was crying out in pain! How could we not see this before?" "I still don't see it, Fred. What are you blathering about?" "We must make up for what we did to that tree. I could stand guard over it, or we could plant some new trees, or..." "I think being part plant is getting to you." "So what if it is?" Fred asks indignantly. After quite a while of listening to Fred's insistent pleas, Merek agrees, and they go back and plant many new trees in the forest. While they do so, Fred makes light conversation with the surrounding trees.
