In Which Diana (well, not anymore) is Uncooperative

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 104025

The enchanter says that he can do that only if he can access Fred's mind, and therefore his memories of Diana. Fred is a bit nervous at this idea, but decides that he must take the risk if he wants to find Diana. So he agrees.

The enchanter (whose name is Merek) locates Diana quickly, and brings Fred within a mile radius of her current position. He says he will stay with Fred until he has found his lady friend, and Fred is thankful.

Unfortunately, finding her is not an easy thing. They search all over, and after a long while with no luck, Merek tries to track her again, only to find that she has not moved.

Fred goes to stand in the middle of a rather open area of the forest, and calls out, "Diana! It's Lord Fredrigo! I'm back, and I've come to take you home like I was going to all those years ago!"

He and Merek hear a chorus of laughter, and a strong, lilting feminine voice says, "Look at the little men. Look how big and strong they think they are." The voice echoes all around, and they can't pinpoint its origin.

"They don't know what forces they're tampering with," another voice says.

"Diana!" Fred cries. "I'm sorry I let you down! I just want to make it up to you by finally taking you home!"

None of the other nymphs even know Diana's birth name, and the hamadryad who used to go by it, now called Hazani for many years, feels something stir within her. But just a small something; her urge to have a little fun with these mortals is stronger than her urge to truly reveal herself.

  1. The dryads, using their bewitching magic, lure Fred and Merek deeper and deeper into the forest.
  2. The dryads plant a creeping flower in Fred's ear.
