Diana remains hopelessly in love with her hand, admiring its beauty and praising its glory in her every waking moment. The knight who came into the village (and who tried and failed to confront Zenobia) is followed a few weeks later by some friends of his. On learning that he has left to cure a young woman's insanity and not returned, they read up on the typical behavior of witches, and find that front doors are usually not safe to enter through, but that off-the-ground entrances normally are. The first of them departs to find Zenobia's castle, and he enters through a window on the second story. He finds his friend scrubbing vigorously at the floor, wearing rags, the witch nowhere to be seen. "Rick!" he cries, and the knight who has forgotten he is Sir Richard looks up and asks, "Who?" The knight quickly gathers that his friend does not remember anything, and strikes off to confront the witch—who materializes in front of him. "So many intruders!" she cries. "What do you want?" "I want you to restore my friend, and the woman who is in love with her hand." The witch snickers. "You must admit, that sounds pretty amusing." The knight has to admit that, out of context, it does.
