Stacy and Julie reluctantly got into the back of the car, and Zimmermann got into the front, next to the driver (whom Stacy did not recognise). As the car sped away, Zimmermann said: "You know, it's lucky for me that you two are so credulous. I didn't even know Falk's name until Dr Jones mentioned it. [9624] He and his men captured our HQ all right - or at least I assume they did, since I slipped away at the last minute with Franz here," and he nodded towards the driver. "Fortunately this car is fitted with one of our transponder locators. Once we'd tracked you down to the hotel, it was simple to find out the phone number for your room and then give you a call. I wasn't sure quite what I was going to say, but you made it very easy for me."

Stacy fumed inwardly at how gullible she had been, but with an effort she managed to keep her voice calm as she asked: "So where are you taking us now?"

  1. "As I said, out of the country."
  2. "We have an alternate HQ not too far away, prepared for this very eventuality."
  3. "Nowhere, until you've had another dose of the amnesia treatment. I don't want you to remember recent events."
