Unsheathing his sword, he gives a fierce battle cry and charges the dragon. He thrusts the sword right into the dragon's lower stomach and the dragon shrieks as something green oozes out of the cut. Fred can see that it's not very deep, but at least it shows the dragon isn't invincible.
The dragon drops heavily onto all fours, trying to crush Fred, but he manages to thrust once again and ward off the attack. Screaming in fury, the dragon almost dances as it tries to find the little gnat and stomp on him. Fred uses his tiny size and agility to evade the dragon while making cuts and thrusts. He finds the left side of the dragon's chest, where the scales are soft and vulnerable. He drives the sword in up to its hilt, blood spurting out and streaming down his arm. With a cry of agony, the dragon rears up and staggers about the cave, thrashing its tail and clawing at the sword hilt vainly. Its frantic movements collapse several tunnel entrances. Fred rushes over to his bow and nooks an arrow just in case, but the dragon collapses on the floor and, with a last wail, shudders and dies. The battle is won, the quest ended, and Fred must now return to the king and report victory. Unfortunately, he's not sure of the way out. He sees only two tunnels still clear; which one should he take?
