Stacy's conviction that the man who had stopped her wasn't human seemed
strange to her, but it was sudden and strong. No human being ever had a
face that flawlessly perfect. And there was something else about him...
Maybe he just didn't smell right. Maybe it was that the grip he had on her
shoulder, while not tight enough to hurt, felt as though it had superhuman
strength lurking behind it. Maybe it was just all the earlier talk about
Asimov novels. Whatever it was, it was enough to make her
stare at him in open-mouthed shock for a moment. Then he spoke, finally
breaking her spell.
