The time had come and his quest must be completed. He approaches the edge of the pit and looks down at his foe. The dragon seems to have crippled one of its front legs in the fall and it is now hunched over, whimpering pitifully. Fred frowns; not exactly the diabolic creature he was expecting.
He sets an arrow to his bow and aims it right between the dragon's eyes. The dragon looks up at him and its amber eyes are full of pain and sadness. It seems innocent and small, curled up at the bottom of the pit. A mournful sound is coming from deep inside it, a song so sad it could break your heart. Fred and the dragon stare at each other and Fred can feel his resolve wavering. The dragon looks so sad and alone. He doesn't know if he can bring himself to kill it now. He takes a deep breath...
