The First Course of Action: Survival!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 61185

Hm, let us awaken Fre . . . er . . . Rei and see if SHE has anything to add to this discussion.

Rei

You have NO idea how good it feels to finally be trusted by those your heart belongs to, let me tell you! I am still VERY new to being kitsune (and a female at that) but it was almost like a knife being twisted in . . .

. . .

Well, cannot say that I am sad to no longer feel that way.

"I do very much agree that the first course of action is survival," I nod. "What we need is shelter for ourselves and our children. That and food...."

A small spell gesture and the glass and metal contraption before me disgorges a pile of what I smell as food and beverages of various types upon the ground. Pride and chivilary be damned, amongst every thing ELSE we must have our children fed and I fear that with things as they are I cannot do otherwise than . . . steal.

Sad day indeed when a D'Honaire must do that....but a sadder day it would be if I was to let something like PRIDE get in my way for the little ones. That and what would be the bigger dishonor? Starving kits or stolen goods?

. . .

After Synizn casts a small spell (being that she would have a wider range of spells than I have) to detect for either sleep poisons or other traps left by those hunting us (cannot be TOO careful in this situation . . . even if it borders on paranoia). That done we grab some for now. Some for later...

"Now, it occurs to me that if we're going to mingle with the humans here," I say, between mouthfuls (am a bit famished after all this). "Well, we might be able to manage something by looking like the native population. However, did you notice that there was the occassional types that . . .er . . .looked like something of our countrymen and such? Maybe we'd still manage to do more and get away with being the odd out by looking like foreigners."

That way, if we slip up on some local customs and manners we shall not totally have our cover blown wide open. Hopefully, our slipup would be put down as the ignorance (or just difference . . . that's okay and acceptable) of foreigners.

. . .

I am not putting down people I have only just laid eyes upon. I am instead using my experience back when I was a human man, talking with my fellow knights.... Did not think much of some of the talkers but for the sake of politics I kept my peace (mostly).

I am just drawing on past experience with people and hoping that this flaw might be somewhat present in the people of this town before me at least enough so we could blend in.

Though . . . it would be better for us if it was just the natives of this strange land be more ACCEPTING of strange foreigners, but who knows?

Anyway . . .

. . .

Hm, strange. This line of reasoning I usually don't follow (trickery) back while human. Perhaps it is the kitsune in me? Whatever the case, however, I am very happy to draw upon it.

Need all the help we can get here. Not like we have much of a plan and many resources to work with right now. Basic stuff first and THEN when we got that covered . . . we'll go from there.

Meanwhile . . .

The local authorities of this city, Tokyo 3, are getting more and more frantic. It has nothing to do with odd reports of attacked JDF soldiers. Frankly, in this somewhat cyberpunkish setting such matters are hardly a matter of concern for them.

What is of GREAT concern is that all contact with the outside world had failed. No phonelines. No TV or radio signals. No satelites signals. NADA.

There is a reason for this: they are NOT where they had been, before. Where they are now...so very much does not have stuff like this!

  1. They are not there any more...
