Accelerated Pregnancy

If the chronology of events that Fred and Astra have provided him with is correct, Synizn knows that he has only four days left in which to bring about their cure. Even though the Crystallic is supposed to have amazing powers, that is an uncomfortably tight deadline. In an ideal world, he would have liked to have had weeks studying the artifact, since making a mistake in using something so powerful could have dire consequences.

Trying to force that thought, and also his worry about where the male demifox could have got to, out of his mind, he takes the Crystallic in his hand and tries to attune his mind to it. He had thought that it might be difficult, but in fact it proves to be remarkable easy. When he is sure that communication has been established, he tries a simple test spell to check that all is in order, and successfully changes the design of the room's wallpaper.

Now reasonably confident that the Crystallic will do his bidding if he doesn't attempt anything too ambitious, he uses it to cast a spell on Astra. He has decided that bringing her to full term and having her cubs born instantaneously, though probably within the Crystallic's powers, might be too risky given that he is a novice in its use. Instead he asks it to accelerate the pregnancy so that the birth will occur in three hours time. That should give him time to find a suitable midwife, since he shudders at the thought of delivering the infants himself. It will also give him time to locate Fred using the Crystallic, and hopefully ensure that if he wants to be present at the birth he can be.
