Fred's feelings at hearing this announcement were mixed: grief and frustration at her failure, and concern for the Captain and the other male members of the crew, but also, deep in the back of her mind, an odd feeling of triumph. That last, she realized, was not her feeling at all, neither the Fred nor the Uhura part of her, but the alien presence still lurking in her mind.

She decided to try one more time to make the others see reason. "Chapel, listen to--"

The whine of a phaser. Then nothing.

  1. When she woke up, she was still in sickbay, but was now strapped to a table. "Relax," Chapel was saying to her. "We're just going to have a look and find out what's wrong with you that's making you behave this way."
