An ancient dragon named Melastirth arrives in the First City of the
Lizard Men. He preached of the Cult of Dragonwright (a pleasant little
organization brought to you by your friends the Splugorth) and a Lizard
Man by the name of Stleet Otter-Eater strikes down their leader and proclaims
the Cult to be dominant. Stleet proclaimed High King of the Kingdom of
Lagarto.
A group of newcomers arrives in Newtown who were extremely rich and
completely unknown. Two years later, a deal would be struck to form UltraTech
Incorporated.
85 P.A. (2371 A.D.)
The Battle of Humari in South America between the Arkhon and the
New Empire of the Sun. Over 20,000 Incas died, twice that injured, while
the Arkhons lost 12,000 soldiers and 200 combat vehicles. The Arkhons decided
not to try any further major attacks. Smart move...if a bit late.
The Coalition establishes a small Psi-Battalion under the leadership
of Lieutenant Colonel Carol Black. It will go on to have an excellent record
of success and a fair acceptance by CS citizens.
87 P.A. (2373 A.D.)
The Republic of Japan reappears on Earth after three days in a dimensional
pocket turns out to be nearly 300 years. Within the first six hours, nearly
10,000 are dead or missing and 32,100 injured. Welcome to Rifts Earth!
90 P.A. (2376 A.D.)
Doctor Reid and his Rangers first arise around this time, both in
form and in rumour. Reid is cyber doc who ran an illegal Chop shop in the
Chi-Town Burbs (the slum area around the mega fortress capital city of
the Coalition). He found he had to run for his life, and soon set up shop
out in the western territory of the North American. A fan of Western, he
dresses the part. Has become something of a hero amongst the locals out
there, who are plagued by vampires. Reid and his gang go out and kill vampires.
Morganna has not met the guy, but has.....a bad feeling about him, despite
his good reputation.
91 P.A. (2377 A.D.)
The Colombians destroy all major vampire cities and nearly drive
out the Vampire Intelligence that is responsible for the Vampire War, but
the creatures manage to survive.
94 P.A. (2380 A.D.)
Victor Lazlo, famous 20th century parapsychologist, is rifted into
the New German Republic.
"Tanr, a fan of Lazlo, smiles at the memory of her meeting the man back
in Africa....ti had been quiet a meeting!
In what is later called the Anticosti Island Incident, an unknown
submarine was detected and driven into shallow waters and depth charged
into submission. It was a Kittani minisub and it was discovered that they
were delivering weapons to an anti-Coalition group. The Emperor, livid
over this gaping hole in the integrity of the Coalition, creates the Naval
Advisory Committee.
95 P.A. (2381 P.A.)
The Emperor orders that a Navy be created, the most powerful Navy
known, and that it be fully operational by 105 P.A. under the auspices
of Admiral Travis Fisher. Which...is interesting and chilling, considering
that some of the ships to be brought into this navy are submarines that
carry nuclear missiles, for use against the Splugorth....just in case.
It was a little itchy for a while there, a while ago with what happened
with Prosac and his cronies......
97 P.A. (2383 A.D.)
A sudden explosion of Weapons Manufacturers catch dominant force
Northern Gun off guard. For the next few years they struggle to maintain
their supremacy, capped off by the founding of Wellington Industries by
their ally Manistique.
98 P.A. (2384 A.D.)
Glitter Boy Mark V introduced into mass service by Orbital Colonies.
100 P.A. (2386 A.D.)
Wellington Industries is founded when archaeologists discover a Pre-Rifts
weapons manufacturing complex. Manistique enjoys a boom.
Morganna and her family pop into orbit after the ship called the
SDF 3, they had been atempting to rescue from aliens called the Invid.
They had been successful, just , in driving the buggers off, when the SDF
3's mighty engines, some type of skip drive, gives it's last performance.
Extremely damaged, it rips the entire rescue fleet and themselves to orbit
above here, and then the SDF 3 people, the Robotech jokers, and everyone
else had to hotfoot it down to Earth to escape the fire that they drew
form the orbiting Earth forces. We land in what had been designated an
emergency landing sight back on both the Robotech Earth and Morganna's
Earth.....but it turned out to be the city of Ixion, the city of the Cyber-Horsemen.
All in all, it was a pretty surprising day all around for most......
A peaceful relation was finally worked out, and thus begins the end
for some people not friendly to non-humans.
Erin Tarn's book "Traversing Our Modern World" released.
Most of Clan Skellian, a True Atlantean clan, are reassembled in
Manoa in South America after nearly 300 years of searching for them all.
Coalition troops seize Port Horus in Lone Star, exterminating resistance
and setting up a base for the forerunner of the CS Navy. The Emperor makes
a speech soon afterwards declaring the intention to build the most powerful
Navy in the model of the old American Empire.
The Coalition makes a deal with Golden Age Weaponsmiths to turn over
all salvage from Norfolk, Virginia at no cost in exchange for recognition
and an exclusive contract.
101 P.A. (2387 A.D.)
The Coalition dispatches troops to Minnesota in reconnaissance for
a planned attack in future years.
Morganna, curious as to the status of this world, beyond what the
Cyber-Horsemen tell her, goes out with a small band of her children to
see the lay of the land. It is quickly apparent, by an encounter with a
small troop of Coalition soldiers, that it's eevn worse that what the centaurs
had told them. Morganna found them having burned and slaughtered a D bee
(dimensional being.....aliens from the Rifts). Some were still in the process
of killing the last few children......
That was one patrol that never made it home. The troops soon found
out the nature of Morganna and her children.
"Which I'll tell her about later," Morganna smiled.
Soon it became apparnent that while not ALL Coalition troops are
out to kill every D bee they find.....something had to be done.
Rugen,goes about seeing if he can find out groups opposed to the
Coalition, especially factions within the Coalition. We hit paydirt with
the Fifth column inside.
Iron Heart Armaments forms when an industrial group signs an
agreement with the people of New Kenora, forming Iron Heart Armaments.
They are condemned by the Coalition but New Kenora turns into a boom town
within the year. For a while.
In May, Erin Tarn disappears while exploring Mexico.
"Which turned out to be due to me being teleported by an accident by
Rift to that other world called Wormwood," Tarn shuddered, remembering
the demon invaded place. "I was happy to get back home after a few years
there, and pray that those folks succeed in driving off those horrid monsters!"
The city of Newtown is admitted to the Coalition after two
years of waiting. UltraTech Incorporated picks up a number of contracts
from the Coalition and the city thrives.
102 P.A. (2388 A.D.)
First known deployment of Skelebots (robotic soldiers of rather...inferior
articial intelligence) by the Coalition. The program is alternately applauded
and derided by Member States and the Coalition is wary of using them, but
the experiment is conducted anyway.
Whispered rumors of various dark dealings with the water and food
that Coalition citizens eat start to leak. Measures by Coalition officials
to stop the leaks fail.
Suspicion builds.
Prosac nearly hits the roof when it is found that key "water treatment"
facilities have been tampered with, rendering them inoperative for their
intended purposes. Oh, the water is safe to drink, it just doesn't....agree
with Prosac's wishes.
ARCHIE is supposedly destroyed by a band of adventurers with
the aid of his old idea man, James T. Maryland is inundated with ARCHIE
robotic creations and ARCHIE of course still directs them. And that lasted
until I met Morganna's group.....
Late in 2388, Plato in Lazlo releases a Planetary Edict based
on premonitions of powerful psychics. The first of these threats, the Devourer,
manifests in the form of The Mechanoids (cybernetic creatures bent on the
destruction of all humans) when ARCHIE experiments with a shifter and accidentally
release Mechanoids into the complex. They quickly establish a beachhead
in the Cyberworks complex.
"Oops," Morganna quips, looking down at the toaster.
ARCHIE sighs and gets back to his task (almost over).
I learned the hard way that posting Shemarrian warrior robots above
my facility was NOT a good idea....after I had been able to expell and
destroy every last Mechanoid unit. I and my idea man would NOT play second
to some aliens. We were to rule Earth alone.
But, in an effort to increase security around the facility without
revealing the true nature of it, I failed to take into account how the
neural circuitry of the AI part of the robot warriors would be effected
by long term exposure to the small ley line nexxus above. Something struck
a responsive cord within the Shemarrian warriors, and suddenly my loyal
robotic units suddenly gained a real mind of their own....and I'm suddenly
pulled form my #@!^ holding unit and placed under "arrest." My idea man,
Hagan Lonovich, is killed trying to escape....and then I'm brought out
to meet Morganna.....
IN one fell swoop I go from potential ruler of the world to a knickknack
for show!
Rugen takes over the operations of Cyberworks, and the funds from
the sale of the robotic products are chenneled into Morganna's and Ixxions'
purse.
Naturally, they shift the most advanced items for examination and
use for themselves and their allies....
On the 10th of April, 102 P.A., a ship called The Quester under
Professor Augusto Cudbury sets off from Lazlo on a South American expedition.
His last report is dated September 103 P.A. and no subsequent messages
have been received.
Colonel Lyboc receives visitors from Newtown proposing Operation
Phoenix Rising. Lyboc pitches it to the Emperor, who subsequently adopts
it. People are going to regret it badly accepting this proposal....
In an attack by the True Federation of Magic, Jason Prosek
and a number of troops are killed and Joanna Prosek, wife of Karl, is presumed
dead. There is a week of official mourning.
103 P.A. (2389 A.D.)
Erin Tarn resurfaces in England and subsequently travels down to
Africa and watches the Gathering of Heroes to battle the Four Horsemen
of the Apocalypse. She meets Victor Lazlo who was rifted ahead in time
from the late 20th century.
In Africa, four terrible powers of evil emerge in the form of the
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (demons styled after the Biblical figures...but
only are imitations....else how did humanity defeat them, eh?). Their only
purpose is to unite and bring about universal destruction. They can't be
bargained with, reason with, and so forth. A call for heroes is sent out
and they arrive en masse to fight the Four Horsemen, the second of the
Horrors outlined in the Planetary Edict of Distress.
Morganna, Rugen, and hirlings hearing the need of help in Africa,
get over there ASAP via travel by ley line teleportation.
The "Goddess" Isis is struck with an experimental biowizard
microbe sent by Set. She does not remember her Divine origins and is quite
unaware that she was a warrior goddess. The microbe is experimental and
its duration is unknown. These leads to all sort of headaches for a group
that Morganna and Rugen, her husband, had hired for this crisis with the
Horsemen.
"Let's see," 179 butts in, looking up at the ceiling and smiling. "After
a rather randy member of the team had....something...with that 'goddess'
he found out soon that it had been a rather bad idea. He mutated into a
lion headed humanoid....and when Isis and the rest of those wastes of space
got booted out by me......"
The smile that 179 is a bit bitter, for some reason.
"Took a bit of doing, and turns out it had something to do with what
Flagg was doing with the Dark Tower that gave me the go ahead.....in compensation
for the chaos it was causing......." the Rule sighs. "If you knew a thousandth
of what I and Morganna have seen that these yahoos do....you'd not be surprised
at my sentiments for most of them. They left Eath when the chips were down....when
the magic was at all times low, and then come back when it's at record
levels?! Uh uh, not going to happen. Their chance passed them by, and they
don't get a second one from me. Rifts Earth is off limits...and any worship
of these "gods" does nothing for them or can they do anything for their
worshiper....just like back in the day of low magical tide......when they
had abandoned ship so long ago. Shameful if you ask me.
"Oh and as for that randy fellow....he got a bit out of line,
and now is a nice little loin pet for the goddess. Oh the joys of a 'goddess'
scorned. The 'goddess' took him to a private little place in the Asral
plane, so I wasn't able to do anything for the poor slob...."
"Just like the good old days," 179 sighs sadly, looking way at something
only he could see.
Tarn looks aghast at Morganna, who nods sadly. Archie winds it
up.
The Horsemen are defeated in various heated battles. Losses
are high, but the demons are defeated and killed.
The Fifth column gathers strength....and a position to pounce at
the right moment of weakness on Prozac's part.
UltraTech Incorporated relocates its Juicer creation facilities
to Fort El Dorado after the Coalition bans them from the city. Fort El
Dorado becomes a major Juicer hangout.
First reports of skeletal-imaged raiders and bandits in and around
North America. They are assumed to be D-Bees and the Coalition deploys
its troops more densely in order to compensate for them. Actually, it turns
out to be Coalition forces out on maneuvers in new armor and equipment.
They were killing two birds with one stone. They field tested the new equipment,
and generated fear to justify increases in deployment....to allay suspicion
in what will happen next.....
In Lone Star, the Coalition declares Mutant Rats to be a hazard
and orders their termination. In a freak accident, a rift opens and about
1,000 of them are rifted to Lone Star City, where they take up residence
and breed wildly. Oops.
104 P.A. (2390 A.D.)
The missing Arkhon fleet reappears, provoking a massive space battle.
The Arkhons fight off the Earth space fleet but retreat to Mars upon discovering
their Faster-Than-Light drives were burnt out. They make the best of their
situation.
The New German Republic begins to field test its secret Navy, which
it hopes to use to defeat the European problem within a decade.
Los Alamos is offered membership in the Coalition, but it declines.
Because they are outfitted with Naruni products, the Coalition wished them
to get rid of it all and they would not, earning them the quiet ire of
the Coalition.
By the end of the year, tests on Operation Phoenix Uprising are complete
and it is given the green light to go to fully operational status. The
Emperor officially announces a cure to the Juicer condition.
Curious things like robotic centipedes and such start to show up
in various places. The odd thing is they are all clockwork inside, but
have intelligence.
With each appearance of these centipedes there is a disappearence
of various Coalition patrols...along with other groups on patrol in various...remote
locations.
Mind Bleeders are discovered by the Splugorth of Atlantis and
are bred for sale. They begin to appear in places previously unknown for
them to appear, including North America.
105 P.A. (2391 A.D.)
By the early part of the year, word has spread about the cure available
for Juicers. The cure was to allow the juicer to live beyond the destined
six year point of death, and live a long and highly augmented life. This
is a trick. Most flock to Newtown, deserting old posts and rallying under
the new agreement for the cure. Many will come to regret this.
One of Morganna's groups under hire finally discover just WHY all
those centipedes are showing up....as well as other groups are disappearing.
A mad mage known only as Halister, from Toril - a world in another dimension.
The mad mage had somehow gone and increased the magic levels of his world
to something like that found on Rifts Earth. He had also turned the whole
order of things upside down....but that's a longs story. Morganna's group
is currenlty giving weaponry and military advice to a brave but odd mix
of dragons, dark elves, elves, and many other races battling the forces
of the displaced forces of the Underdark.....don't ask me....I wasn't told
the details.
"The leader of the forces I support is a drow...a dark elfin lass called
Liriel Baenre....interesting and vibrant woman!" Morganna said. "and she
has a real hatred of the leader of the forces of dark...as she put it with
a wintry smile....her father....Gromph Baenre....."
Morganna just smiles, and it becomes clear that for the time being she
will not reveal what she knows of the stuation.
Tarn swears she's hears of those names before....she just can't place
them.
The Juicer cure is revealed to be a fraud after a misunderstanding
with two Juicers. The so-called Juicer Army of Liberation rises to do battle
with the Coalition, who they blame for the fraud. They soon take over the
city of Newtown and the CS is paralyzed by indecision and shock (suckers).
After studying Newtown UTI facilities, it is discovered that the
Phoenix Treatment was in fact a plot to gain control of a Juicer army by
an alien race. It eventually turned a Juicer into something of a zombie.
Still highly dangerous and quick....but without any of the old person inside....just
a walking corpse supported by nanites. The Juicers defeat the aliens and
the Coalition claims they were pawns of the aliens. Thousands of Juicers
return, embittered by the failure.
Then "proof" that the leaders of the Coalition knew all along the
detrimental side of the "cure" is found. There is even proof that the D
Bees that had so long been the whipping boy of the Coalition had tried
to WARN Prosac of the risks....what the aliens were up to....then the reste
of the dark plot that Prosac and his cronies had been up to came to light...when
some type of data disk stolen by the Disruptor....a hacker under the Fifth
Columns pay.....showed itself.
Prosek and those who were fingered on that disk .....only a few made
it to trial. The rest were waylaid and lynched by enraged Coalition citizens......
It wasn't pretty.
Now, the Coalition is kind of flopping about trying to decide what
to do with itself....but it is certain that all hostilities with non-humans
have halted. And if it should start again.....
