"Then we have the Dominion....." Empress Diana Walker pauses, looking
over at Odo and his group.
"Frankly, there really isn't a good 20th century analogy for them....."
Daina says, looking over at Odo, "Perhaps back say in the 19th or 18th
century with them being conquerors or such, but that was then....before
the Lizards, this is now, after the Lizards came to town. Anyway,
Odo belong's to a race of shapeshifter called Changlings. He's of the good
type, he is, was raised by those in the Federation....but as for his kin.....well,
they had this view that all 'solids' need help and guidence in all things.....kind
of the type parents give children."
"Hmm, that attitude sound familiar," Dragon Synizn mutters to himself,
wincing as he remembered having similar feelings not to long ago about
human beings (before awaking to the truth).
"Of course, that meant that they felt obligated in conquering other
Non-Changlings," Odo (former Head of Security of Deep Space Nine and how
default ruler of what remained of the Dominion) sighed, "So it continued
on when travel through the Wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant took off and
they decided that the Federation and the others of the Alpha Quadrant could
also use guidance......"
Point in fact was that before the Lizards came and threw everything
into the fire, the Dominion (through it's genetically engineered soldiers,
the Geh'Hadar, and their middle managment) had been waging a slobber knocking
battle with the combined forces of the Federation, the Klingon Empire,
and (a bit later) the Romulan Star Empire to gain control of the Alpha
Quadrant (and the arrayed forces as well). The struggle had been bitter
and for a long time it looked as if the Dominion would win the day, but
the tides had been turning against the Dominion. Lots of "dirty" tactics
had to be used to by both sides (including...somewhere along the way somehow
a bio-agent being unleashed against the Changlings that nearly had caused
them all, including Odo, to "buy their plot" as Walker put it).
"But then the Lizards came in the picture," Walker continued, "They
dumped Omega all over the place in enough quantity that, when it exploded,
caused enough subspace ruptures to deny all warp travel to all races here.
Didn't matter to the Lizards, since they knew how to 'jump' to an
undamaged mirror reality where they could use warp......."
However, the Omega dumping pretty much broke the back of any meaningful
wide scaled resistence most races could muster against the Lizards. Entire
space fleets became stranded.....years if not decades away from the nearest
habitable planet that had been easily accessible before at warp speed.
"Anyway, if it hadn't been for Admiral Jellico.....and the Janeways,"
Kirk adds the last, after a beat or two, "Things would have looked very
different than they do now. With their help the Military was able to locate
and aid stranded Federation and, to a lesser extent, Klingon vessels."
The change in the affair of things sometimes still made Kirk shake his
head in wonder. He was used to Klingon's being out for blood (his blood).
Now.....Klingon's would almost fall over themselves in admiration for him
(or rather, his analogous version of himself). Things changed and changed
even more when he'd come here with his "old" Enterprise with it's 23rd
century technology that should have made it......well, it was an
antique by 24th century books. However, when one remembers that transwarp
worked still here and the Enterprise 1701, his ship, not only could achieve
it....but by means that still was making those in Star Fleet Engineering
screaming up at the heavens "Why didn't we think of that!"
Uhura had done the old girl, and herself, proud.
Yes, things had changed, and at least not all of it had been bad. The
final change brought about by his Enterprise had been the final
death blow to the Lizards. Amazing how quickly one can get forces about
by a means even faster than warp.....how quickly battles won.
"But the Romulan military, being standoffish as they were, had been
less than forthcoming with their forces," Odo sighed, "When the
Military was finally able to find out where exactly the Romulan force were.....not
much was left."
Not enough left to even consider, seriously, at trying to stay apart
and out f the New Federation when membership had been offered. Nor did
it matter to the survivors who were left that the "old" Federation had
basically tricked them into uniting with them against the Dominion. Truth
told, the "faked" proof that the Dominion was going to soon turn
As for the Dominion, the Lizards had been rather thorough in tracking
down and liquidating Changlings to a point where they were a decidedly
endangered species. What happened was that the last remaining Changlings,
mortally wounded, had given a set of desperate orders that made Odo (and
those like him) the sole Rulers of the Dominion. Even if some miracle occurred
and the old ruling party returned from the grave.....in Odo's hands
now the reigns of power lay. So it came to be that, when offered membership,
Odo had also joined the new Federation.
God knows that recent events with Lizards had pounded the truth of "strength
and unity in numbers" home for all in this universe.
Strange turn of events, but if one travels far enough throughout the
multiverse....almost anything can happen.
The discussion done, Walker and the others soon had to get back to more
mundane things like trade talks. However, before leaving to join with the
others, Diane Walker hung back for one last thing.
"Before I run off there is one last small bit of business to take care
of," she said to Roland and the others of his group, "And that is that.....it's
horribly embarassing knowin' all we know about those Star Fleeters, the
Babylon folks.....and you. Isn't right, I say, but what can we do? The
Wonks said that while it'd always been possible for us to come across something
like this, the odds were VERY long as to be ridiculous."
"But the fact of the matter is it seems that factors conspire against
us so....here we are," Susannah sighs, seeing that the Empress is at least
trying....in her own fashion.....to apologize for knowing personal
and private things about them.
With that, Walker nods sadly and heads off. Oh, she'd been thrilled
to actually see some of her favorite characters in the flesh....but after
a while it had dawned on her......this.
Soon, Queen Astra and others were given transport to yet another
spot on Romulus which had been glowing a few years earlier (but no longer
due to cleanup efforts).

Another door
drawn in the dirt, and the group steps through......right into a small
town with a Cuban theme to it..... Back on Mid-World, they were, and already
attracting surprise!
