To Fred's surprise, Belboz started to chuckle. "That stupid Elaine
screwed up," the former mage said. "He's sent us to the very spot where
we'll be best placed to prevent the invasion: Arthema's camp. I imagine
he expected that we would both lose our memories, and therefore would be
willing recruits to Arthema's army. The thought of our bearing arms against
Allaria probably amused him no end. But our loss of memory didn't happen."

"Even so," said Fred, "preventing the invasion may be much easier said
than done."

"I don't understand," Fred said. "Who are you, anyway? Come to that, who
am I?"
