Fred and Astra were too tired and too well-trained to gasp when the
second moon rose over the horizon. They simply looked at each other. Fred
shrugged his shoulders and they moved on.
The moon was large and filled up much of the sky. It was mostly red
and there was much scoring and damage upon it's surface.
Later, Fred and Astra were between two sand dunes. Not much could be
seen ahead or behind and to the right and left were piles of boulders.
Then the air before them shimmered. Fred and Astra stepped back. Three
shapes materiallized out of thin air.
They dressed in black leggings with strange devices at their belts.
Two wore blue shirts, while one had a gold shirt. One with a blue shirt
had pointed ears like an elf! Fred raised his sword. The gold-shirt raised
his hands.
"We come in peace." he said, calmly but forecefully.
"Peace?"
"Yes. We mean you no harm. I am Captain James T. Kirk of the Federation
vessel Enterprise. We found you out here and came to rescue you."
"Where is here?" Fred said, keeping his sword raised.
"The Delonnian desert." answered the man with the pointy ears.
"No! Where is here?" Astra said. "Our world does not have two suns."
"You are on the planet Vulcan." replied pointy-ears.
"I have not heard of this, Vulcan." Astra said.
"Jim," said the third man. "This is irrelevant. These two need treatment
now."
"You're right. Now," he said, looking at the two. "I'm going to open
this device at my belt. It is not a weapon." He unlatched a small metal
box and flicked his wrist. A panel on it opened. "Scotty." he said. "Five
to beam up."
-
The surroundings changed. Fred and Astra were now in a room built in metal.
-
The surroundings faded away, then changed. Fred saw bumpy-headed men charge
over the dunes right before the dunes went from sight.
-
Fred awoke in the middle
of the day. What an odd dream. Sure, the second moon had been there, but
the three men weren't.
