I blink, looking down at the small multimedia unit which happens to be
playing that particular song in Japanese (not translated into
English due to the Universal translator being switched OFF due to making
people of NERV nervous when some Star Trek puke mentioned it was somewhat
telepathic in a way).
Creator! Given the nervous nature of some in NERV about peeping toms
into minds after watching the Second Child getting mind raped I can
understand but this was just out and out paranoia!! But Misato requested
it so I"d turned it off, giving the report in English (why I don't KNOW
but Misato had requested it).
Maybe she'd wanted to relay the report to some English speaking
compatriots around the world and . . .whatever.
And thus the Japanese song remaining in Japanese "That's it, once
I'm done with this place I'm going to take an axe to the Magi system!" I
mutter to myself, vastly annoyed at this latest joke the now fully
sentient trio of super computers seemed to have pulled.
"What was that?" the current CO of NERV asked blankly to the air
in general.
"The theme song for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The 'Cruel Angel
Thesis' to be exact," I supply in as pedantic tone of voice I can manage
before turning and looking at the somewhat befuddled Dr. Naoko Akagi.
My current "assistant" (have to use her for something, since I hired
her, right?) looks a bit nonpulsed by her creations latest antics, neh?
http://www. Anime lyrics. com/ anime /eva/ ngetnshi .htm Maybe
I thought it would have been a fine joke indeed, having that
particular song playing as elevator music throughout the whole of Tokyo
3. Maybe.
Creator knows that what they have for elevator music just blows
chunks! And they don't even HAVE elevator music here in NERV. Talk about
unnatural...
Also!! Creator knows that I (and the Doctor to be honest) just weren't
quiet
in our right minds near the end of our rampage through NERV's electronic
vaults and such...
"It seems that whatever personality quirks that have worked themselves
into the system my romp through her did amongst other things. . ."
I continue, wondering just why I had thought it a good idea leaving
that little mdi file in the computer system as a parting gift.
Such as the hot reboot of Magi Casper (the computer programmed with an
Operating system that mimics Naoko Akagi as a woman). A very intense,
draining but deadly necessary which Naoko did in order to remove
the . . . .psychotic/murderous elements which had appeared in that
computer system programming...
Must have come from either Choas energy exposure or somehow having been
over written by that OTHER Magi system from the manga universe or
whatever . . .
. . .
Well, whatever the case what we have here is a now fully sentient super-
computer (something that's on par with an Inuit AI system back home) with
some decided quirks and deviations from the original source coding (i.e.
Naoko Akagi).
Bottom line, we have a super computer who liked to play the occasional
prank, if only to brighten up those they see are somewhat in the dumps for
whatever reason.
Okay and all that, but whatever prank that theme song served as an
opening to another fine prank to lift spirits will have to wait here.
Frankly, while I am sure that Naoko here could use a good cheering up
(she's the obvious choice of the Magi's attention, being that she's
still
somewhat down from the train wreck her romantic affair with "her" Gendo
Akari) I feel NOW is not exactly the right time.
Gee, I guess that whatever else had been done to the Magi must have
warped it's sense of priorities and . . .
"Uh . . .sorry about that," three eerily similar but different voices
say over the PA system in the briefing room. "We . . .glitched after
being faced with something unexpected."
"A bird just popped into the waiting room says that he needed to see
Inquirer," Magi Casper said, shaking her head slightly in consternation as
her image formed upon the screen I"'d been giving a briefing up to this
point. Must compliment her on her sense of style, very beautiful sense of
style this AI has. "Naoko Akagi as a woman" is alluring, even if it's
all
just computer generated.
"What does Pen Pen want with her and just how did you figure out
he wanted Inquirer?" Misato Katsuragi, current CO of NERV (Japanese
branch), blinks as she interrupts me before I get to ask MY own
set of questions.
Have a sneaking suspicion about this bird and I doubt that it's about
sardines! Doubt it's even Pen Pen.
Pen Pen (both anime and manga ones) are genetically "uplifted" penguins
who enjoy beer and hot springs. Even are now intelligent enough to be
able to read newspapers (and invest in various stocks through an anonymous
computer account).
However, though Pen Pen (both of them) might be intelligent enough that
the "pet" takes care more of the "owner" than vice versa, I doubt that
he's suddenly gained the ability to verbally communicate.
Those birds are decent touch typists with those claws of theirs
(re: http://en. wikipedia.or g/wiki/Li st_of_c haracters_ in_Neon
_Genesis_ Evang elion#Pe n_Pen), but all they can do is wark and make
other sounds penguins are only able to make.
"No dear," another image of Akagi appears, this one dressed in a kimono
and hair done up in a bun (i.e. the motherly image that Balthasar -Naoko
Akagi as a mother--chose to present herself at this setting). "Both of
those hot water penguins are
being taken care of by your sister and that very polite young man of
her's, First Lieutenant Makoto Hyuga. They make such a nice
couple, if I only say so myself!"

A few coughs and mutters can be heard around the room and I see that
Misato (the anime version) is biting back anything she was going to say on
the matter. It is kind of funny in a way, that
the "motherly" part of the Magi system got into the act of playing
matchmaker between the rather nebish computer technician and the still
heart broken beauty. The manga Misato Katsuragi needs some kind of
stabilizing element to keep from sliding into a massive depression (the
death of her lover combine with her charges being swept away from her care
had taken quiet the toll on her). Magi Balthasar had taken things
into her own hands, apparently.
The computer denies it but it is odd how it seems that her hand is in
the pot here and I'll leave at that. It's a bone of contention between
computer and commander and I don't want to be getting any more involved in
these wackoes lives
than I can manage, thanks!
The First Child probably was the most stable of the lot, whatever
storyline you'd care to mention in my humble opinion even BEFORE
blossoming and coming into her own...
"No, the talking avian in question happens to be a stork instead
of a penguin," Magi Melchior put in, choosing to appear next to
her 'sisters'. This AI was
Noako Akagi as a scientist and as such was dressed in a more conservative
outfit (with a white lab coat thrown into the mix). Frowning, she
continued. "I am
somewhat at a loss as to how the thing should be able to speak. Hm, must
be magic . . ."
The last part was said in an intrigued voice, curiosity finally
overcoming consternation in the ever logic minded version of this copy of
Noako Akagi's personality. Yes, that AI is very much
the child of the flesh and blood woman here.
Dr. Naoko Akagi, also by the way, who just happens to blink and
sputter when the Magi system go on and inform the rest of the group just
why this talking stork wanted to speak with me. Frankly, I am a more than
a bit flabbergasted myself (and more than a bit ANGRY).
"gThis stork is from some magical place called Xanth and there
are storks which deliver babies instead of then being born to the
mothers?!" the woman sputters. "gI used to tell old wife tales from the
West like that when my girl was just barely out of diapers and there is
actually a reality which . ..which . . .?!"
"gYes, Xanth is bad about things like that and puns," I mutter to
myself. "gEspecially bad with puns and bruised ego when they found out
that they were not the ONLY real magical land out there."
Or that their non-magical neighbors, Mundania, suddenly eclipsed it in
magical energy.
Though I"'d have to be a real nutter to want to live in Rifts
Earth (http: //en.wikip edia.org/ wiki/ Rifts) over living in Xanth
if I had to chose between the two. Xanth is . . .annoying in a lot of
ways but at least it's not a nonstop war against the enviroment and all
that like Rifts Earth!!
That said, though . . .
I told them. TOLD THEM to NEVER, ever deliver any child I and
the Doctor manage to conceive whilst in Xanth. Yes, I KNOW that
Xanth's magical nature makes the union between my kind and a Galifrayian
possible but by the CREATOR I opted OUT of those stork idiots having
anything to do with delivering my child!! I was going to have the
kid the "gnatural" way and to HELL with human Xanthian sensibilities on
the
matter!
Ah, I have a LOT of things to discuss with that damn bird. Including
just why "gJunior's existence is only now coming to light? And just why
did he get delivered (or MISdelivered) now, two years after our last visit
to Xanth?
Takes much less time to give birth to a golem child than two years, I
shall have you know!
At least that explains why "gJunior" in Rei's reports kept insisting
that it . . .he was my and the Doctor's child.
Still, I have to finish up business here with Misato and NERV in this
briefing. I could just blow them off and walk off to attend to the
business of the stork, but that would/could only cause problems later (and
I loath to generate more problems).
Faced enough of "em on this Quest, thanks. Nearly got drowned in
them a few times, in fact. So, until I finish here I'm having the
Doctor
go and find out what in the Blazes is going on here. HE is the parent of
this child as well so he had the right to speak with the stork, tradition
or no tradition.
Ah, anyway I am quick about the briefing (wanting to get out of
there ASAP) but even a full blown retelling would be dull. I'll just
include the basics and be done.
Basically with the inclusion of Rei-chan into the group she'd
become even MORE adverse to conflicts than before. The reason was simple,
Rei-chan is a CHILD. A angelic little girl of some four years old and you
cannot expect a girl or boy that age to be of much use in a combat
situation. Except to serve as a liability. A target. Something easily
hurt or killed.
Creator, not my child... If it had been Tabris alone, Rei might have
been less prone in avoiding needless conflict (fear she's not one to back
down from conflict either). Tabris is a grown man with combat training.
Has seen war and bloodshed. Is ARMED and knows how to use that plasma
weapon of his.
Rei-chan's a small girl who's . . .a normal child. Albeit with blue
hair and red eyes, she'd be slaughtered in a fight involving high powered
weaponry/magery.
Hell, she isn't able to do much more than run for her life in even
unarmed conflict against grown ups. SHE IS A CHILD!!
A child that after much discussion with various other possible adopters
I and the Doctor got a hold of for our own. I fear that something lonely
just called for us to help her. Be her parents.
Stupid sounding but that's what happened and I'm glad that Rei played
it smart here and not risk my daughter in combat.
Yes, she was not going to risk Rei-chan's safety for the glory of
combat (not that Rei and her sisters were glory hounds to begin with).
That and one has to remember that the safety of Rei-chan (and Tabris) is
linked to the well being of Halkan, remember them? If WE fail and
either Rei-chan or Tabris buy the farm, then they'll forevermore
be
the plaything of that trollish Author from Game 3. And I don't want that.
Wouldn't wish that . . .well, I could wish that on a few people I
could
name but not on the peace loving Halkans. No.
I may not be the most peaceful of people at times. I'm NOT the kind
to
bleat about not wanting to study war no more (though peace is preferable
to war). Not one to turn away from a worthy fight but I have no beef with
the Halkans.
No, I tell how Rei's group (after picking up an Amazonian warrior
princess in a dragon's cave) had avoided a confrontation with some muscle
bound freak (using much more professional wording but the meaning was
clear enough in my briefing). I do skip over the parts where Rei
complained about this world her group found themselves in being a funhouse
mirror version of Terra Prime. While their Amazonian princess (Astra, go
figure) wasn't a ditz, there had been times she'd been . . .odd. The
whole place was odd at times. Most disagreeable to the young woman.
Well no matter. They ditched the muscle head and flew away to arrive
(later that same day) at Princess Astra's capital. See the head mage
(after a LOT of thanks from the Queen and such). Awards and knighthood,
that sort of thing (abbreviated due to them mentioning something about
being on a magical Quest that must not be delayed or Hell would be to pay).
I skip over the data Rei learned from the court mage that
finally gives us enough information we need in order to be able to
manipulate (albeit with extreme effort and material usage) another's
Matrix. Can't use it in combat but we now have the means to FINALLY be
able to cure disease curses like lycanthropy as what's found on Earth
(which warps the victim's Matrix in order to transform from man to beast
and back). A plus even IF everything else fell through.
Junior got transformed BACK into his natural form (and had to be
shielded from the same mage who"'d cured him). Transformed from a
hatchling dragon . . .into a four year old Inuit/Golem child.
My species.
My child, if he"'d been just born, should be an infant in swaddling
clothes. Not a four year old.
Meaning that on top of everything else, our child's delivery had been
overdue?! They only NOW got around to delivering Junior?
Oh, I so VERY much want to talk with that stork!!
But I'm going to be calm and collected when I do my talking.
Heh, I do want to take after my mother on THAT one.
I'll leave the yelling and such to my little brother, Elrondir.
I'll
talk and . . .use pressure points to convey my displeasure.
Oh. And speaking of talking? Seems that such an advanced golem
was just so tempting to the mage that it took direct orders from
Princess Astra (as well as a few threats) to get him from performing a
vivisection upon MY child!!
. . .
Let us just say Rei and friends weren't too sad to depart to their
final destination. Hope that that amnesia suffering young woman they"'d
named Eve gets better treatment than what MY child almost got, thank YOU!!
. . .
Makes me want to travel to that world and pay my . . .respects to that
SOB myself.
Explosives. Oh, the joke of judicious use of high explosives can
solve any problem would SO very be nice to practice for REAL in this
case. On the mage and on that damn female dragon who appears (from what
Rei was able to piece together from clues given over the course of thigns)
to have wanted to sacrifice MY child (who"'d she'd transformed) in
some dark ritual to gain power...
Don't ask me what the Doctor had to say on the matter.
Rei had ended up mentioning that same dragoness who apparently been the
cause of the mis-delivery of MY child (and transformation) paying a call
to the castle. Would have been more worried about it except for the fact
that the muscle bound buffoon that had tried to interrupt Rei's journey
seemed to want to "gspeak" with it. Looked to be one REALLY fantastic
(evenly balanced) battle between dragon and sword swinging Looney Tune,
but Rei's group had opted on leaving.
Leaving behind questions about what was exactly up with Eve
unanswered. Leaving behind seeing what the final results of the battle
between beast and man..
It had been time to go and said as much to Astra, Amazonian Queenie and
company. And after I finish up with Misato's group, I say as much to
them as well.
Just as well, their kind of reeling a bit from the news about NERV-02
showing up on another planet and all that. Kind of not every day one
learns that they suddenly have
"After I pass along the SOS Rei wanted me to deliver for the C-57D
I have a few things to settle with a stork," I smile a smirk that is
more than slightly evil. "Yep, got a bit of business with him with ol'
Bessie here let me tell you."
I pat MY plasma pistol to leave no doubts in their mind what I
meant. That stork better have a good explanation or I will be . . .
. . .
Hm. My old friend from Babylon 5 said it best to frame my feelings
right now about this. I shall paraphrase...in case the stork dares ask me
who I think I am for threatening him this way.
""Who am I? I am Inquirer Deschaine. Ex-Inuit AI turned Golem. Daughter
of Probe and Evis 7 Deschaine. I am the right hand of vengeance, and the
boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to
Xanth, b*st*rd. I am Death Incarnate, and the last living thing that you
are ever going to see. God sent me."
Needless to say despite Inquirer smiling throughout the last with those
thoughts going through her mind everyone ELSE gives her wide berth.
-
Meanwhile the Doctor is having his own little discussion with said stork...
