In Comparison: Hyde to Griffin . . .

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 50070

Inquirer

"I think that you can assume that anything Dr Jekyll hears, Mr Hyde will be aware of." the Doctor explains to Chiana.

Yes, of all of us here (Companions andthe Doctor) who call Terra Prime home, only she and the the Dark Elves here would not know of the . . . well, particular case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Some of us have read the Robert Louis Stevenson (the guy who wrote Treasure Island), like me. Some know of the good doctor having split himself into two: his good side and his evil (id) self through references to actual events which mirrored that famous story (like B'Elanna's where she'd "learned" of Captain Kirk having been torn apart in a similar fashion via a transporter accident, ala The Turnabout Intruder).

. . .

Wonder what Hyde, Dr. Jekyll's dark alter ego, shall have to say about us once he . . . finally makes the scene, really. Oh, perhaps we could sway Dr. Jekyll to drink that witch's brew (or whatever means Hyde actually shows up, being that not everything must follow the "script") that created Hyde in the first place and then ask, see him then here and now and ask but I rather doubt that would be really wise!

. . .

Hyde is a murderous beast, shall we say. Was a dwarf in the story, but still . . . a handful that we needn't mess with right now, eh?

Besides, with that bastard Griffin now back amongst us I worry more about the Invisible Man than the Inner Id made flesh!! I was hoping . . .

Well, he or the Victorian pill pushers managed to bring him around, whatever the case. Oh, not totally by the mad and dark little chuckling and muttering he gives off now and then (especially directed towards my group whenever he glances our way whenever he thinks we're not listening or looking) . . . . No, they only did it enough to make him . . . functional (whatever they did). Not enough to be sane again, no. Mr. Bond's . . . quakes only did enough to make him a functional, murderous psychopath instead of sane!

. . . .

Perhaps they find him more . . . useful that way, I fear. That goes hand and hand with some suspicions I and the others have about Mr. Bond's group: dark ones! Suspicions that whisper that once this business with the Cavorite is done all us "loose ends" shall be . . attended to in a most permanent manner, if we allow it.

No, don't trust Bond or this mysterious M at all. Bad vibes, shall we say.

. . .

Speaking of vibes, I'm getting more from Griffin than Hyde. See, insane or not, Mr. Griffin seems to be smarter than Dr. Jekyll (and perhaps more dangerous because of that). See, in conversation--this came up in conversation in carriage to this place-- Griffin had enough brains (unlike Jekyll) actually had been smart enough to use a test subject besides himself before getting himself in his "situation".

. . . .

Hm, now if he'd been smart enough to have discovered that he'd be unable to return this "test subject" (some poor soul, a slow albino man who got kicked to death by a mob like the "storybook" Griffin had been) could not be returned to normal I would be more . . . impressed. No, instead he finds out too late he cannot return to normal WAY too late.

Yeah, and while this is great literature and all that--great social commentary about Victorian society about how Griffin was an analogy of other real, everyday "invisible men" of Vicorian (and modern day) society-- I can not really say I'm thrilled that . . .

I don't want Griffin around. He's a ticking timebomb. A bomb that will turn on us soon enough, you see.

He remembers what had been done to him, you see... Feel it in my metallic bones: he remembers and will try to redress the subject soon enough.

Is muttering something about that in fact behind Chiana's back, saying that Sigin will be the first to go and . . .

Oh shit, Chiana can HEAR that and she's a dragoness! That . . .

SMACK!!

Oh crap! Even I, who've seen MUCH in the way of violence and grevious injury have to wince at WHERE Chiana's knee just made contact with!!

After all, I had only just fixed that . . . thing.

Okay, here are a few litle factiods for you, oh reader. A small factiod about dragons (whether male or female) and Chiana in particular: they can be VERY . . . . er . . . passionate about the things that they care for, you see. Bet you know that dragons can be VERY violent towards those who would steal from their Hoards. Of course, by now in this story we know that Hoard's contents are mystically linked with the dragon's very own life essence and power; the Hoard is life itself (physically) for the dragon, you see! When two dragons have Eye Meets Eye happen, their souls touch and mesh forevermore, and thus the Other becomes life itself (emotionally, psychologically AND physically . . . since mated sets of dragons like that . . . if one partner dies the other does NOT last long afterwards).

This is, besides the fact that Chiana and Sigin here are so totally INTO each other in love, the reason (a very REAL and vital reason) just WHY they sometimes have difficulties . . .restraining their reactions when the other is threatened with harm. Oh, they can usually restrain themselves but . . . there are limits. Besides, these two LOVE each other.

Dragons can be very violent when things (and people) they care for are threatened!

Just ask the hostile spaceship boarders who had the bad luck of finding this out back on that one Enterprise (re: 39018)

Now, if you know anything about Chiana . . . if you have seen the few times we saw this part of Chiana's character in Farscape . . . Well, let me tell you about it. In the TV show sooner or later you see hints of it. The TV show Chiana wore emotional armor of a sort, keeping the universe at bay with a sharp tongue and acid wit. When and if a character got into her heart, past thosee defenses . . . well, shall we say that when those she actually cared for came to harm it HURT her (and it could be very PAINFUL for the perpetrator, if Chiana gets her hands . . . or knees . . . on them).

  1. "Who are going to gut, FEKKIK?!" Chiana nearly screams, twitching in that special way she has (almost avian) in her anger as she looks down at the prone mutterer at her feet.
