What exactly is a dranit?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 38697

Chiana

Quiet a few heads rolled (figuratively) for that afterwards, but the Captain of that Military ship got exonerated of any charges of genocide, especially after the remaining Dragons FORCED the issue...

Oh, before we go on here, let me remind you that dragons are NOT just humans with wings and scales, despite there having been a positive link between Dragon and Man the Doctor and my mate found whilst exploring the issue via traveling back around the time of Atlantis upon Terra Prime! Oy, yeah with what they found that theory about all (or a great majority) of the non-human races upon Terra Prime at least perhaps having been human ancestors (but changed into their non-human forms) really . . . . Uh, it's kinda frellin' frightening, really, the way they say they saw from remote viewing criminals, dissidents, and other "unwelcomed" getting transformed. If not entire strains of non-human races tracing their origins back to those acts, then a lot of them at least got influxes through it....

....

Bottom line here, though is that the mind of a dragon works differently than a human being (or a Nebari . . . though I'll put it down that I believe I was born to be a dragoness). Look at things a bit differently than human beings would in certain matters. Unlike perhaps some human conflicts you might try bringing up to contest what I say next back the surviving dragons don't hold all of the Military at fault for the actions of a few. The guilty were punished AND in a perverse way the knocking around dragonkind was exactly what was needed to show that humans were not to take lightly AND (when the ruse of the false alliance between Dragon and Enemy revealed) they are STILL to this day trying to make amends for it...

....

Myself, I can understand why things had happened the way (kinda) how things happened here on Terra Prime for the Dragons. First, there was the fact that a block of evil dragons (Western Dragons who very much were as bad as one of Crichton's fairy tales made dragons out to be) was in control of the government (and frelling Hezmana, do I know about bad government with the Establishment) was....

Nevermind. Just let me tell you that I and the other Dragons are very glad for the change from a regime too entrenched otherwise to have been dislodged. It was THAT bad, folks!

Just trust me.

....

Anyway.

"Yeah, I understand about that," I finish up. "But what I so do NOT understand is just why you and your mates kept staring at me throughout this like a set of dranits!"

Morning Song

Despite not knowing exactly what a dranit is, I, Trilling, and my co-wife cannot keep up the serious demeanor that gryphon tradition demanded up until now.

Oh, the cawing we give off is much different than what your average biped type would give off, but it's a laugh all the same.

"Ah, sorry Lady Chiana," I manage after recovering. "Sometimes the rigors of the Chief and Chieftess can be so binding. We . . . by custom had to LOOK into you for that long to see what you are, 'tis all."

"Look . . . into me?" she blinks, twitching a little bit that would look at home on one of my kind. "You . . . were looking into my frellin' mind? By what right do you....?"

Trilling Blackfeather

"By the right what Gryphon custom demands AND the fact we are the Doctor's parents," I say, dropping all traces of humor in my voice. I say it in my native tongue, so the meaning of the truth I tell is not lost in a rolled R or L. The TARDIS is at station, so the mystical ship does it's duty.

See, I do not want anything lost in translation, here, due to language barriers.

The Doctor's original parents . . . . entire family except for a young woman named Susan had disowned him for daring to break Timelord law by intervening in outside world affairs. For doing what his heart and soul said was right, he no longer had a family and that HURT him terribly. I and my wives will NOT have him hurt again if we can help it.

Yes, we might be called a couple of overprotective parents, you might think. However, besides it being our wish. . . . it is our DUTY as well as the rulers of the Gryphon Nation. We might be the equivalent of monarchs and might set the standards of society, we are also BOUND by those standards....else we're not worthy of being what we were born to be!

....

The look I have in my eyes must have told Lady Chiana that much (and silenced any objections for there is no arguing with me and my wives over this), so she swallows whatever she was going to spit out. AND when we also add that as the "stand in" parents for Sigin's parents (and explained that to silence any kind of grief some troublemakers will try to bring her way just to spite Eternity Inc to get back at a loss of political power in Terra Prime world politics....long story....don't ask....this way sealed that off).

Evening Star

"Huh?" Chiana asks, not understanding (but at least willing to hear us out despite having been rather angered at us Looking).

"Some of the human colonial powers before the coming of the Enemy/Alliance war resent having been supplanted by the rise of the non- human nations and Aqualaria in power," I explain. "They are not even small powers any more and are losing more and more power even in what is left of their nation as their subjects emigrate (when they can) into our nations for better life and living. However, as a means of striking back at the rulers of what they see as upsurpers they'll attempt to bring shame and grief to our friends, like you. That's what they do after it became crystal clear assassination won't work on Champions (won't stay dead) and OUR subjects are too loyal to be swayed. They'll try to hurt US through you and Sigin if they feel that the marriage that Zhaan can be cast at illegitimate, see? By what we did gives it a validity that cannot be contested."

Rosepaw

Okaaay, I think to myself. I'll take their word for that since I never had any interest in studying politics before my uplifting NOR after.

Politics is a strange game, better left to those willing to plunge into that murky stuff.

Well enough that. At least the gryphons answers and reasoning mollifies Chiana, though she'll admit to me later (we'd kind of hit it off into a quirky friendship here) that she didn't understand the whole of it herself, but at least appreciated the effort (strange as that sounds).

Lady Chiana (she'd rather liked the title) soon meets the rest of the familiy, in one fashion or another before getting onto the next Quest (one of many that still stand between the Doctor's honeymoon over in Xanth, by the way).

However, one of the two things standing out in my mind as being hilarious is the surprised look we all have upon learning of the recent addition to Gilmuriel and E'eysha (not only an unborn child, but a beautiful set of elfin babes given to them by an Agent, babes named Azure and Quirlos). Some mutter about fast work.

The other memory is the way Chiana looked a bit embarrassed and wondering on how to explain when I ask what exactly a dranit is.

So, onto the next Quest.....

  1. In dorm room 205, two girls (who have a stranger history than they presently know) are facing a mysterious man with a strange weapon....
