The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23043

The Doctor

"The baby!" the chap known as Pilot gasp. "I think it's coming!"

"Pardon?" I ask intelligently, blinking a little bit.

I do recall Ragan mentioning that this ship we are now within is a living entity named Moya. However, by the chagrinned looks I see both upon Ragan and her red haired sister, I gather that whilst they had been knowledgeable about such a fact that they'd failed to share it with us.

Perfectly understandable, given the rather bizarre nature of things of recent.....

"That came about in the NEXT episode," Betty muttered to herself, shaking her head in bemusement, indirectly seeming to confirm my suspicions.

"Huh?" Pilot asks, blinking in bemusement.

Putting aside the first few questions I have myself on this matter I instead turn back towards the more important task at hand, only to pause when what Pilot's statement could well mean....

"I take it that this upcoming blessed event will delay our needful departure by Starburst?" I ask, a touch nervous.

The longer we stay about the more likely something rather unwanted will happen....

"Must assuredly," Pilot says, very concerned.

"Bloody," I mutter, knowing that whilst my television counterpart might never swear like that (something I rather am not in a habit of doing myself, really) and that it probably wouldn't have gotten past the BBC censors....that it perfectly reflects the frustration I feel right about then and there.

......

Must have picked up a....er....bad habit from Inquirer and some of the others! Usually I don't swear strongly at all! Then again, after living so long together as long as we have (longest time I've had the same Companions about), there is bound to be something rubbing off on me as well as them.

Later....

"Well," I say calmly, almost cheerfully, as I look around at the assemblage about me, "Whilst I may be a Doctor, I fear that my degrees do not cover the medical field. Don't suppose anyone of you here know anything at all about delivering a child, eh?"

I then almost feel like slapping myself for having had to asked! Of all those before me, I should very well know already who'd be qualified!

The slight smile I see cast my way, mixed with a bit of humor, tells me that she knows that that certain fact had slipped my mind in the rush of it all.

Elrondir

"You might say that I do," I hear my sister say softly, "After all, I did help deliver the premature infants of Fred and Astra 5 (re: 5241) successfully."

When nobody else steps forward to object that they had more experience than that (as little as that applied to such a....pardon the pun....big patient), she of course is the one who gets tasked with the delivery. As it will turn out, the "supremely un-useful Hynerian" (as Pilot puts it), Rygel will protest later that he had more experience with such matter....but it shall turn out that he was doing little more than bragging (i.e. he'd been nowhere near the birthing process, but rather something like outside in "the waiting room" as one could coin it).

Something strikes me that Pilot is rather right about this Rygel chap upon soon meeting the person in question....but that it later.

Anyway, that is the reason why both Betty and Ragan rather loudly nix that suggestion.....

Chiana and Zhaan get "roped" into assisting, along with one other member of the Farscape cast: Gilina. Ragan is the one who strongly suggests her at the last, but whilst she silently (i.e. mentally) shares it with the Doctor and his Companions, she fails to mention it aloud. There’s a reason for that that I’ll get to in a moment.....trust me.

As for Gilina, she looks rather taken aback by being included, not at all sure about the reasoning on just why she could be of use, since she‘s a technician and not a medic. Hear her asking just that question to the others aloud as they exit Pilot’s den, the owner still rather befuddled by all of this.

I know he has so many questions he wants to ask...and I get the feeling that he’s going to come almost swinging (as it were) out, verbally and loudly demand to know what the Hell is going on here.

Well a day, ‘tis my “turn” to explain things in the stead of the Doctor, anywho.

“See that,” I say sharply, pointing back at the TARDIS, forcefully so that I have Pilot’s attention, “That’s part of the answer to your questions, mate. See, we call it a TARDIS. Meaning Time and Relative Dimensions in Space.....”

“Meaning a time machine,” I add after a second as Pilot seems to be trying to form the letters with his mouth....but seems confused.

From what I can see from his facial expression (a dangerous guess but one I believe I’ll make despite him being of a race I’m not familiar with), at first he seemed confused by how my words seem to make sense in such an alien way. See, unlike the “translator” virus that usually does the trick, my words are being translated by the TARDIS via some kind of mystical and mysterious telepathic ability she has. It’s a step above, you see, from what Farscape has, I’ll bet. Not only does it make it appear that I’m speaking his language--something that the higher quality of Federation translating devices accomplish through a bit of holographic trickery or by psychic illusions created by the Farscape translator virus-- but it sometimes can convey the exact meaning of a phrase (or alien lettering).

In other words Pilot has (temporarily) some alien runes called the English alphabet running around his head right now due to the TARDIS, thus giving him the reference he needs in order to translate the initials of the TARDIS meaning. The fact that he’s able to somehow not look over this inclusion speaks of a rather....alien....mind. Usually the TARDIS is able to do it’s “magic” without detection at all...

Inquirer can detect it and dismiss it at a will, considering her rather odd science/magical nature, but still....

“Thus is how Zhaan is back here and down in that landing pod,” I go on, seeing Pilot’s eyes grow wide as he absorbs the “time machine” implications, “And why everyone else is up here, by the way, via a vehicle who appears rather too small to hold so many.....

“I’d explain more on how it’s possible, “I add, cutting him off, “However, that would take too long by far since we need to concentrate on getting as far away from here as possible whilst we can! Wouldn’t do to be dead in space when Moya’s baby comes, eh?”

With that, I end my turn. Oh, it lacks in part, but then again I was perfectly correct when I said we don't have much time! Creator knows how much time we have before the Tyrell's make there next move after taking over the PK base! Best this rather abrupt method of verbal "hit and run" than nothing at all. See, whilst there are other ways I could have done it, I just do NOT have enough time, I fear, to use them, despite being a friend with a Timelord...

Gilina

I am......being dragged along by forces I don't understand and by people I've just met!!

"But why do you need a frellin' PK tech to deliver a Leviathan child!?," I ask, exasperated, my usual forbearance abridged somewhat from the painful ringing in my head from where that rock had struck me.

Usually I'm more....polite and deferential to others. PK techs, after all, need to be careful about how they come across. Insolence isn't exactly tolerated, let us just say, by some of the warrior stock.

That and I must be a bit slower one the uptake than usual, I will see later, for I perhaps would have "gotten it" after a few....er....well... I guess I would have figured out what Inquirer was not saying aloud in a bit.....

Well, let's just get back to it and I'll show you...

"Because Aeryn Sun will still be out of it for a bit even with that tissue sample," Inquirer seems to explain, but not really.

I open my mouth again to question. Frell it! After all, it isn't like I can very well go back to the Peace Keepers after this. My career is rather....over.....

.....

I shall come to grips with that later. There is a task to be done right now and I shall do it, but I will have known just why and for what reason I am.....

.....

My, that ringing headache is making me short tempered and rather out of character today, isn't it!

The one known as Zhaan appears to have the same question herself but was going to ask in a more polite and calm manner.

The bottom reason why is because we need you to be there to handle the infant from what Betty has told me just a bit ago, I blink as I hear Inquirer's voice inside my head, We cannot wait for Aeryn Sun to recover enough to handle "Junior" and we need somebody familiar with PK technology and instrumentation.

Zhaan and I look blankly at her for a few seconds and then I see a troubled look cross Zhaan's face...as if she's getting an inkling of just what this woman is talking about.

Wish she'd share because I fail to see what she's hesitating on saying...even in telepathic conference.

  1. Whatever it is I get the feeling that she doesn't want to say it aloud yet so as to be overheard by the wrong ears.....
