"How'd you know my name?!" Bishop blurted out, still shaken by the
abuse he'd gone through.
The Doctor and Inquirer give each other quick glances that seems to
speak volumes to each other.....
This guys shock was real enough and both he and Inquirer had a strange
feeling, an extra little something, that said to tread softly here.
"I'll explain later," the Doctor finally says, intending to do no
such thing!
While not sure as of yet that this person was actually Martin Bryce
(a.k.a. Martin Bishop), the fugitive computer hacker found within a movie
called Sneakers. It could just be one vast coincidence that they
ran into a man who got thrown from a car....who's name happened to be Martin
Bryce...and is very nervous about people who seem to know his real name.
But the guy just had an....air about him that was similar to that which
hung around the Doctor. He had a certain.....taste......
Bishop looked like he was going to protest, but then Inquirer interrupted
before the man could ask any more awkward questions.
"First let's get out of the blasted street," she says sharply as she
looks around, "Don't know about you but I've seen how some of you Californians
drive....and I frankly don't want any of us ending up as road kill!"
Bishop accedes the point and the threesome hurries out of the street.
Bishop then turns and has now recovered enough to be able to focus at the
task at hand.
He has a bunch of questions like what he'd already asked (and which
hadn't been answered yet). Amongst them was the question just who his benefactors
where....and just why does the strangely dressed woman look like Sigourney
Weaver?
He hears the older gray haired man say something alien sounding (almost
like a magical incantation, Bishop's less discipline side would say) as
he's turning back to speak.....only to find the street empty behind him!
"What the Hell?" he says to himself, and then puts this enigma of disappearing
people behind him (though it bothers him greatly that they can vanish so
quickly without a trace).
Catching something in the corner of his eye, his head jerks...only to
find more "nothing."
Martin, get in gear and listen to your nerves! Bishop scolds
himself, thinking that the edginess he's feeling....the fact that he seems
to keep seeing something just out of the corner of his eye was just the
return of old survival instincts.
They'd managed to get him to Canada to evade arrest after Cosmo and
he had hacked into what he had felt were corrupt systems (including President
Nixon's personal checking account). It had allowed him to be albe to set
up a convincing cover here in California for all these years with the business
he'd set up.
Right now, even his more mundane sense said to get off the street. He
was sure that the death of his friend, Greg of the Russian Consulate, would
somehow be pinned on him. Best to get off the street....and to somebody
he trusted!
Around a nearby corner.....
The Doctor, dropping the hasty cloaking spell he'd thrown up (thanking
the Powers above that that Bishop hadn't been a little more alert....he'd
almost seen through the little glamour the Doctor had managed).
A quiet discussion had followed, and the Doctor agreed that it would
be best that....just for the sake of curiosity and perhaps even the safety
of this Bishop....that Inquirer follow him. Both he and the female AI just
wanted to see how close this real life drama was following the Hollywood
script!
If it followed it closely....then Bishop and his friends could be in
real trouble after they get a certain Item....and Bishop starts to carry
out some acts that would SURELY get him in trouble.
As amazing as the Item in the movie was (Inquirer said that her rig
back in Terra Prime <and even civillian computers back Home> had a more
advance version of that very thing), there were a few problems that would
arise if Bishop followed through on long held grudges. Problems that could
get him and his friends killed!
It was serious enough to warrant the adventurers cutting their well
earned vacation short, that was for sure!
I'm going to follow him, Inquirer said mentally to the Doctor.

Good
luck, my dear! the Doctor sends back, I'll get in contact with the
others right away! Tell us anything as soon as you can!
