"Do these Logopolitans know we're coming?" asked Inquirer. "I mean,
they might not take kindly to it if we just show up and start messing with
their radiotelescopes."
The Doctor favored her with a charming smile. "Don't worry. They're
old friends of mine. And, yes, I sent a message to let them know we were
coming. The Monitor seemed very excited to hear that we could help with
their little project."
"Little project," Ragan murmered sarcastically to the others.
"Stabilizing the entropy of the entire universe and he calls it a 'little
project!'" Several of them chuckled. The Doctor ignored them. Picking up
a sheaf of printout from atop the TARDIS console, he opened the doors and
strode out.
The Monitor -- the chief mathematician (and thus chief everything)
of Logopolis -- was there to meet them. He shook the Doctor's hand enthusiastically.
"My dear Doctor! How nice to see you again!"
"And you, Monitor," the Doctor replied. He then quickly introduced all
of his companions, the Monitor cordially greeting each of them. But it
was obvious that something else was on the Logopolitan's mind. At last,
once the introductions were made, he reached his hand out to the papers
the Doctor held. "Is that... Is that the code for the signal you described?"
"See for yourself," the Doctor said, and handed him the printout.
The Monitor perused it rapidly, flipping through the pages and absorbing
the densely-printed mathematical notation with ease. His face grew more
and more astonished as he went along, and at last he looked up at the Doctor
with an expression that bordered on awe. "But this is incredible!" The
hand with which he held the papers was shaking. "This will allow us to
stabilize the universal entropy with one transmission! It will eliminate
the need for the CVE's entirely! And there are... Well, it will take some
analysis to work out all the implications, but they are potentially staggering!"
"Well, then," said the Doctor, still smiling. "What are we waiting for?
Let's get started, shall we?"

And so the
Monitor lead them to Logopolis' antenna dish...
